It has been said that Junior will no longer be playing the steel guitar shows. St. Louis was his last show. I would like to take this time to honor Junior and to let him know that his career in the steel guitar show circuit will be dearly missed. I have always enjoyed anything Junior has ever played or attempted to play at least. He has always been a very humble, generous man and he is liked by many. I want you to know Junior, you are a true inspiration to many, and your playing will be greatly missed.
What was your greatest Junior moment?
Maybe with enough response he will consider doing shows again.

I hope it's not true - the only time I get to meet him is at steel shows and he always finds the time to talk to you - I'm sure he meets so many people that it would be hard to remember them all, but he always acts like he remembers you and is a joy to see him and watch him play ........

Junior is a dear friend of many years who has greatly contributed not only to steel guitar, but to the happiness of others as well.
I know him as a man of his word, respect his decision, and say thank you Junior for your contributions and a job well done. |

Well I don't belong in this crowd but I will always remember Junior doing a class at Tulsa on "Intros". My favorite part and the part I learned most from he called "Sears and Roebuck Intros" makes perfectly good sense. Now I can give you a Sears and Roebuck intro in any key!! Thanks Junior. |

I was devastated when Junior told St. Louis would be his last show. I say we get a petition together and have Congress pass a law that Junior can't retire!
I had the privilege of interviewing Junior Saturday night at the convention and he brought tears to my eyes. No matter what he plays, it's an automatic favorite of mine.
Junior is the kindest man I have ever met, a true gentleman, great friend, honest and true. A real man of honor. THE Texas Steel Man!
Junior - Please don't stop playing! Just read this Forum and you'll see just how much you are loved and will be missed.

In the mid 70's Junior Knight was my first television influence when it came to the steel guitar. I was glued to the TV set on Saturdays to see him play. Lately, when I have been to the Texas show he has played at times I was not able to be there and I sure missed him playing. I respect his decision but I for one will certainly miss hearing him play. Junior, you are a first class individual and a great steel player. Best wishes to you and your family. |

I don't know how it could have happened, but this year in St. Louis was the first time I had ever heard Junior Knight play live. (My first ISGA show was in 1975) His tone was stunning. So clear and beautiful. What a great, great player. How could he even consider retiring?

I hope that Jr. Knight keeps on playing the shows. He is an inspiration to so many and a real gentleman.
I had two of his guitars, a Cater D10-8/8 and Carter S12 8/8. Both fine guitars that had sone interesting tuning pulls on them.
He also did a fine job setting up my MSA Millenium U12, when he worked there....al

Junior and I had a long discussion regarding playing the show circuit. He has chosen to leave that venue behind. He has not quit playing steel. In fact, he is playing five nights a week at former place where he had played before. He is the band leader and it is a full time job as I understand it. He told me that he thinks it is time for him to stop doing shows, not stop playing the steel. |

My "Junior memory"?
About 1984 I passed through Dallas looking for work and putting some distance between myself and a life that had somehow collapsed.
I met Junior and he invited me to jam at the Longhorn with him. I set up my MSA on his riser stage right. Junior played guitar. I had a ball and he, a true gentleman, was very gracious about my playing.
Years went on, life took its twists and turns--but I can't forget his kindness on that cold February day in Dallas.

Thanks everyone for the kind words! It makes
this ole country boy from Texas all warm and *giddy*(???) inside.
One of the best things about playing these shows the past 25 yrs is the friends that I have made...without you guys, there ain't no me!!
But it is time for me to sit back and listen. It has been the greatest thrill of my life to be on stage or even in the same room with all the GREATS of the steel guitar. WOW...what a 25 year run this has been!!!
Thanks and God Bless Ya, Junior.

Junior,
I will always cherish that morning in 1997 up at the PSGA show when I sat and enjoyed breakfast with you.
I still have that photo on my wall of you and L.T. Zinn on stage and it reminds of how great you both are.
I hope to hear you play again.

To be certain that we would get a good seat for the Bobby Flores show, where Junior Knight was playing guitar, DeeDee and I got in there about an hour and a half early. Since Junior was all set up, and had nothing to do but wait, he sat down with us and we had a good loooong chat. Let's just say that I had a very enjoyable wait. What a great guy!
Then about the time Junior got up to play, in walks Roy Rosetta. So Roy took Juniors seat with us. What a night!!![This message was edited by Merle Record on 09 September 2005 at 08:52 PM.] |

Jr. I will never forget when you sent an e-mail to my daughter Lisa when I told you she was just starting out playing lap steel. That was the high light of her life, and she has told everyone she knows about it. I was very lucky to meet and to hear you play for a few years now, I will just say, Go With God Jr, and God Bless.

Hey Jr,,we all get burned out of playing from time to time. I once sold all of my stuff for 250.00 ,then much later I got to wanting to play again. Of course I can't play as good as I once did,but I still love it any way. The only way I'm going to quit now is when they pull my cold dead fingers off my guitar. I hope after a good rest you'll come back to us because you are a great player and we love you a lot. Besides I haven't been able to steal but about 10% of your licks. I figure in about 53 more years I'll have them all down pretty good. |

I remember when I was at the Choo Choo City Steel Guitar Reunion, Junior played a beautiful version of "Amazing Grace" in memory of steel guitarist Gary Hogue. Junior is definitely a great steel player. Brett, Emmons S-10, Morrell lapsteel, GFI Ultra D-10 |

Junior, As bith you and I know, I have not know you very long (1 Year) but I can tell you this: I have been honored to consider you as a true friend and have enjoyed the tinme that you and i have spent together at the TSGA meetings and Jamboree. It has been an inspiration to me and I hope to you as well. Just because you have retired from playing at the Steel conventions doesn't mean I can't visit with you at them. Best of luck to you with your future endevors.
God's Peace from your friend, D:
Gregg
