Yes, there was so much great playing going on in St. Louis, but...

Don't forget about the stories the players have to tell! They are full of memories, it is fun to listen!

Here is an MP3 file of Larry Sasser, telling about his first experience at the Opry, when he had to survive the famous humor of Weldon Myrick and Hal Rugg, then Johnny Cox jumps in and tells about Jimmie Crawford's experience with Hal and Weldon:

Enjoy the priceless memories!

Kind Regards, Walter

I've mentioned this before, it would be super great if someone would write a book where, after interviewing the greats like Mr. Emmons, PF, Weldon etc (unfortunately, we've lost some greats), have the book tell highlights of their road, backstage etc, experiences. Like some of the humorous things that they remember about artists or what happened to them and embarassing moments too. And maybe tell what they went thru when they were learning the trade - some of their hardships and inspirations.

Ted,

You are right, one could fill an enzyclopedia with all those stories! Would be great to collect and preserve them!

Walter, thank you for sharing the story with us……a great story indeed. Out of curiosity, what recorder did you use? The fidelity is great. Russ

Russ, I recorded with a minidisc recorder and stereo microphone. It always gives me good results!

Walter,
I just loved that Larry Sasser story! It goes to show, steel players are a breed apart when it comes to humour.

Walter, I wish someone would take the time and get some of these players together to record their stories and write a book. Someday we will wish we had. Those stories are so great. Bobby
