JW's new cd is finally out now on Deke Dickerson's Eccofonic-label. Those who don't know him should go and check it out NOW, and I mean NOW. Those who do know JW, know what I mean. 14 tracks, 9 of which are original showcase this guy's incredible virtuosity and more important, the impeccable taste. Think Joaquin, Speedy, Noel Boggs, Vance Terry all rolled into one and add some Red Norvo and Fats Waller and you'll pretty much get the idea what this cd is about. And this is not just a great steel guitar album, there's some really hot lead guitar too by TK Smith, Russel Blake, Jonathan Stout and Whit Smith, plus DJ Bonebrake's swinging vibraphone.
Sorry for the ramblin' but this album deserves to be heard!!!

I've got to get one. JW's a musical monster inhabiting the body of a mild mannered Californian.

Jeremy Wakefield, everything I have that features Jeremy is sterling, just the best.

The Biller & Wakefield album is great, so I'm really looking forward to this CD.

Well Jason, there's a new cd out by JW's western swing band The Lucky Stars too. Last week I was in GreenBay WI at the Oneida Casino's Rockin' 50's festival where they played and I can't imagine another western swing band that I would enjoy more than them. Also, Biller & Wakefield did a set there too ( and I was off to pawn my guitars )

Amen to all of the above endorsements! JW, besides being a master of the old school styles, is one heck of a nice guy. Can't wait to hear this and the new Lucky Stars CD. They are way cool!

I went to art school here in New York with Jeremy in the late 80s, and in addition to being an amazing non-pedal player, he is, or was a fantastic painter. Funny that we are both now steel players. He was probably the best most intense artist among our group at the Cooper Union, I am not surprised that his star is rising. I heard where he did some of the Spongebob stuff.

Jussi - you got home quickly!!

Guys, I do have to "second" everything Jussi says...JWs new disc is a really fine example of everything I love about music. The players are top notch; the recording quality is great and really serves the style well, not over produced, just simple and aurally pleasing. The songs that JW wrote just go to show that he is more than just a great steel player; he is a musician of the highest caliber. This is a jazz disc and I think that it will be a fine endorsement for the steel guitar! Anyone who loves real jazz will enjoy this disc. As for the Lucky Stars.... that’s a whole different thread, we could on for days about their greatness. And as for Jussi, his steel playing is right up there with the greats as well, a great guy and his post just shows what a class act he is!

You can probably get JW's cd online soon from www.dekedickerson.com. The album is not actually advertised there yet since it's brand new and Deke himself is on the road now. Try sending an email to him at eccofonic@earthlink.net.
And Steve dude, it was great seeing you and Cari Lee again, my best to her, but I won't take my clothes off !!!

Well Dave, Deke drags his "capitalistic corner" everywhere with him, I'm sure you'll find the album there!

I'm bumpity bumping this up because A): this album is simply great and deserves a lot more attention and B): yesterday I just got the new Lucky Stars cd too from my local record store. I won't go into details, but it's every bit as good as JW's solo disc and it swings like crazy. Great, humorous songwriting and outstanding musicianship. Those who are not planning a "Lucky Stars cd-shopping trip to Helsinki", try here: www.theluckystars.com

I got a copy tonight from Deke while doing the show with him, man, it's FANTASTIC. Everything Jussi said in his initial post. I think this may some of the best I've heard Jeremy play. A true must have, no kidding. Deke ain't no slouch, either...

Jeremy lives within walking distance of me (admittedly a long walk.) Somehow though, we've never managed to get together.

Awesome player. He blew me away when I heard him.
