| I was wondering how many of you guys have heard of Joe Savage? He is the Steel man in the house band at Midwest Country Theatre in Sandstone Minn. He is a GREAT steel player and a GREAT guy also. A show from the Theatre is televised every week and he is on it alot. |

| Been watching every since it started coming on R F D channel.Joe Savage is getting better all the time. and sure love that ZUM STEEL, My wife is a invalid,and each wk.she says, that guy sure needs a hair cut.haha. I have had the pleasure of hearing Joe and meeting him. He is a great steel player and a gentleman. Joe turned me on to this forum as a matter of fact, thanks Joe.

| I really enjoy his playing also, but have trouble watching the whole show. The guitar player gets on my nerves with all the delay he uses. |

I agree - someone needs to tell the guitar player that an effect level that might sound good live doesn't make it for recordings. But then the overall mix on that show is a mess anyway.
Neil, forgot to tell you they showed you and Barb again. I'm assuming it was from the same taping you did way back when. Just a different selection of tunes. Seems like one was a medley but I can't be sure. |

I'll pass on the sentiments to LeRoy, who is a killer "old school" guitar player, BTW, but I would agree with the effects comment. Oh Well.... Neil, how are you? Haven't seen you for along time. I agree that this show is a good down home Country and it seems to give the chance for regional players and performers as well as past greats to be in a spotlight. Joe is most impressive as he lays out and never steps on anyones ride and smoothly does his job to a tee. The guitar player seems like he is into the old echo-plex or Chorus sound. To me this takes away from what the others are playing and is predictable in every song he plays. He is a good knows his stuff player but the echo-delay cheapens the sound of a good guitar.Too much of it does. Hope this show continues to grow. As far as the sound I play the show through a 1000 watt stereo Bose system and it do make a difference.

I also watch Joe and the band every week on Midwest country. Joe gets one of the best tones on his Zum I've ever heard. Great picker! The guitar player is really good, but I wish he played a Tele instead of a Gibson or whatever brand he's playin. I just like the tele twang for country. BTW- my favorite singer ya'll have onr the show is David Frizell. One of the greats in country music.

Joe is one of the most underrated steel players who will knock you off your seat. He's a terrific harmonica player and will sing some great blues.

I also know Joe, and have had him on my shows when I produced some steel shows in Minnesota. I hope that one day, someone, would request that he do his rendition of Sixteen Tons. IT IS A KNOCKOUT. If you are ever in Minnesota, especially on a Monday night in Minneapolis, go see Joe and the band he plays with at Louie's Liquor Lounge. This place is immortalized by Dale Watson, who has played at Louie's, in song on his Live in London album.
Hi Joe, and say hi to Dan, Leroy, Joe and Kathy, Nate, Al Udeen, Andy, Dan Lund, and the rest of the great people I miss in Minnesota. Hope to see you all in August-September.

Hey, Joe! Long time no see! I think when I met you, you were playing with Whiskey River at the Waterfall Inn. Wasn't it? That's so long ago I can't remember for sure. It's been a couple of years, for sure.
We also play at Lee's from time to time. (Wayne Renn Band.) Maybe I can catch you there some time. I don't get to Lee's too much without having a gig there. I always thought Dan got a pretty good sound in the PA for the steel. (Here I thought it was by accident.) I remember him asking me if I knew you, but he didn't say you played there regularly. Tell him I said, Hi!

| Hi all you guys. Dennis...I will pass along your "Hellos". I played with Dale at Lee's a couple years ago when he was between steel players. Really fun. Hey Brian, yes, Russ is coming up. I'm loaning him my P/P Emmons for the weekend. They are also doing a set at the Medina on Saturday, BTW. Where are you these days, Eagan?? Someone told me your phone # doesn't work anymore. Maybe you can't have a phone..... since you just got out of prison???? Ernie...Lee's is a very steel friendly place. I've been there every Monday for almost 3 years now....... Wow. The Waterfall Inn....whew...that was a long time ago....I'd only been playing for about 2 weeks at that time..haha....No, more like 2 years. Anyway, maybe we'll meet up again one of these days. Thanks all you guys. |

I have to gig up at Black Bear Casino this week and can't get down to see the SBWB's, so tell both Russ and Dan Lund that I said, hello. There was a time when I'd see Russ and Mike Cass almost every day. (At Clem's Pedal Steel Guitar Emporium in Mpls.) Ah, the good old days...

I like to watch the show just to hear Joe Savage. Cool name by the way. I know it takes patience and a sense of humor to back some of the acts, Joe does it very well and sounds very good doing it. I think the guitar player is good, the effects are a habit that's almost as hard to break as smoking. I traded away a vintage Strat once because I could not pick without resting my wrist on the whammy bar. It's probably worth a fortune now.
