Last night I heard A Matthew Sweet C.D. that has some really wonderful steel on it. I checked his website and saw that Greg Leisz is credited on many of his albums. I was told that what I was listening to was his first album, which Greg is not credited on. Did Matthew work with another steeler? I want to pick up one of his C.D.s, but I'm not sure which one.

Any recommendations?

Thanks!

Would this be the way to go?

Thanks!

Lawrence,

Yes, Greg does play pedal steel on the "Girlfriend" album by Matthew Sweet. I really enjoy that album, IMHO his best one. If you like "pop" music with pedal steel then you will enjoy it.

Cheers!

If I'm not mistaken, Greg Leisz also plays on a CD by The Thorns, a supergroup consisting of Matthew Sweet and two other songwriters whose names escape me right now. great album. He seems to show up in the Americana/Alt-Country scene.

Greg plays on lots of projects, including Joni Mitchell who he has been playing for regularly for some time. Very tasty, understated playing.

Oh yes, his work with Joni Mitchell is great. Check out the "Painting With Words And Music" live DVD if you're not familiar with it.

His work with jazz guitarist Bill Frisell is also highly recommended.

If you can find it, Greg Leiz plays on an album by Velvet Crush called "Teenage Symphonies to God". Also on a fantastic Joe Cocker album "Organic". I love his playing as he plays in pop and rock contexts as well as country. Listen to Pam Tillis "Mi Vida Loca"! He plays his butt off on that one!
