Hi everyone. I am a poor scottish steel player (owner lol) in need of some assistance!
In the early part of next year, I`m hoping to become the proud owner of......drum roll......a new Millenium M3!!!! yay!
I will be flying to Dallas (courtesy of a free flight from Sky TV) to pick up my new axe.
Can anyone help me out with where to find cheap accomodation near to the MSA factory in Dallas? You see, my piggy bank will be so frought with anxiety at the prospect of spending $5295.00 on a steel, that she may not want to part with much more! ha ha!
If I am lucky, I might even persuade her to part with her money in December (nice xmas pressie for me).
I`m hoping to come over for about a week to take in some sights too, maybe meet Pam Ewing (to tell her she should have went with JR ages ago cos he had more money, fancier office, and better cigars).

Any help would be much appreciated!

Davie Holland

och aye the noo!

Davie,
If you left it till the beginning of March you could take in the Dallas show and get a good deal for accomodation at the Harvey Hotel.

Yes, and there will probably be a free shuttle from the airport to the hotel, and the MSA folks would probably bring the guitar to the show for you.

Davy, all you had to do was email "Rainbow Travel Ireland", and I would look after your accomodation requirements while in Dallas. Dont you know I have contacts worldwide!
Do as Allan suggests,go in March, catch the Steel Guitar Show, meet the guys at MSA, fill your bags with goodies, have a rip-roaring weekend, and then head for Scotland with a load of good memories.....money well spent.

OK Here`s one for you. I have to provide TWO destinations for my free flight! The options are, Atlanta,Boston,Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Raleigh, Seattle, San Diego, San Francisco, and Washington DC.

Which one is closest to Dallas?

I may have to fly to another airport and get a connecting flight, if my first selection of Dallas isnt available!

My geography of USA isnt very good! (if you see a scotsman wandering around aimlessly in your neighbourhood on the 9th March, please point me in the right direction ha ha)

Davie, I happen to have an atlas sitting here on my desk. Of the cities you listed, Atlanta is the closest one to Dallas.

Good luck on your trip!

Wow! I would have guessed Chicago but according to Mapquest you're right. Dallas is only 782 miles from Atanta.

I'm moving this topic to "Steel Players" because it has little to do with "Pedal Steel".

Forget closest, Seattle is WAY more fun than Atlanta. The climate on the upper left edge is much more becoming a Scotsman, the countryside is beautiful, there's no humidity, plus I'm sure we'll show you a real good time.

Seattle sounds like fun. What a dilemma!

I guess my definition of a "poor" Scotsman is a little different from what I'm reading.

Congrats Davie!

Hi Rick
Great to hear from you again. Sorry you missed out on last years tour with HM. Was a blast! I have a one shot free flight mate, and I need to use it to pick up the new steel, otherwise I get hammered for import duty (shhh dont tell anyone). Plus, I`ve been promised a slap up meal from Reece, so I cant turn that down! heh heh. Would have been great to meet up with you and bob ryan again, especially as he likes his "buds" fresh! lol wink wink!

Hopeful that HM tours again in the next couple of years, and we can catch up! Maybe I`ll play my new steel for HM if she is lucky hah hah!

Malcom, it was a deal over the weekend of May 20th -23rd. Sky were offering free flights to USA only to people who registered within that time! Sorry you missed out man! The deal allows me to take one other person with me for £250 plus taxes and insurance, and I`m waiting to hear back from Billy McKillop if he can go or not. If not, then there is a place available to anyone who wants to go. Bearing in mind, they might ship me to Atlanta first, incurring a return internal flight from Atlanta to Dallas!

Is this getting complicated or what?

Davie

PS Ted, please email me with some B & Bs in Dallas! lol

Davie, if Billy can't make it ,I would love to go.Have been shopping around for flights to Dallas, but best so far is around £420.
Going over to Toronto in two weeks ,and doing same as you, picking up new pack-a-seat from WC Edgar which he kindly sent to my cousin,as the Fedex rates over to here were outragous(twice the price of the seat).Hope to visit Al Brisco, will pass on your regards to him. Thanks Malcolm

Hi gang...
I usually try hard not to interject non-relevant info on a thread, but I couldn't help it this time.
I'm coming to you live from Edinburgh right now, from a hotel lobby computer. Having never been off the North American continent before, I have to say; This is the most spectacular city I have ever seen.
Not a sentimental guy, yesterday I had tears in my eyes as I had the deeply meaningful experience of walking Culloden Moor with my auld dad. You lads live in a beautiful place.
Sorry to digress, Davie. More on topic... did you know Dallas is an ancient pictish word meaning "a flat plateau"?

Well you wont find many Dallas`s in Scotland! More like Twin Peaks! heh heh!
Glad you are enjoying our fabulous country.
How long you over for? Email me and let me know!

OK! GUYS!!! I`VE DONE IT!!!!

I`ve put the deposit down on a new D10 MSA Millenium M3 today!

Now I need to pick a colour. Not sure about the Sunburst now, as Kyle Bennet told me they have a new metallic blue. Pics on website later this week I believe!! So I`m gonna wait till I see them before I decide!

Davy, just to be different, why not have it done in a Tartan finish, I bet it would be the only one like it,eh! Personally,I think the "Sunburst" finish is AWESOME, but Im not forking out the $$$ for this rig. Whatever color you come up with, Im sure you will have a Class steel. Good Luck Davy
