We all enjoy the "zany" humor of our buddy
Smiley, he makes us laugh and smile with his one liners. "BUT" I received a CD today from my good friend Smiley, and it made me smile sure, but more than that I heard some of the "Best" steel playing I have heard in my life. Some take him for his humor,I do as well but his talent is excellent and his playing is superb. His ability to play pedal steel and double on Dobro knocked me out.

I dont know whether or not Smiley's CD's are for sale, but they should be.

This is the collection of numbers played by the finest human being I know.

AMAZING GRACE
ONE DAY AT A TIME
JUST A CLOSER WALK WITH THEE
I'LL FLY AWAY
HOW GREAT THOU ART
PEACE IN THE VALLEY
PRECIOUS MEMORIES. " THIS IS A SPECIAL TRIBUTE TO SHOT JACKSON AS THIS WAS SHOT'S FAVORITE TUNE.

Thank you Smiley, you are a great steel player. Those of you who would like to hear this wonderful CD will have to contact Smiley
I dont know if they are offered fo sale,BUT
THEY SHOULD BE.

Thank You

Jody Carver I'll say it over, and over, THEY
SHOULD BE FOR SALE.

The last thing I clicked on before checking in over here was another "zany" email from Smiley. I never know what's going to fly out of my inbox... Jody, I don't know if Smiley's gifted you with his collection of past country recordings, but you need to bug him for that one too. A great player as well as a world class nut. Love ya S...

Smiley brings a smile to every one he comes in contact with. When he walks down the street in Nashville, literally everyone he passes smiles. (A few of them even laugh out loud.)

Smiley is also a singer......I have an autographed copy of his vocal CD from a while back...it's aptly called 'SMILEY ROBERTS SINGS-WHETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT'----a real 'wax to watch'.

I met Smiley in the late '60's, when he was with the Compton Brothers. I was highly impressed with his playing, and learned to love him as a person. Yes, he has one of the best senses of humor I've ever encountered. I laugh at the emails he sends me, and look forward to each and every one of them. Smiley is a "Class Act" in every sense of the word.

Smiley is simply just "one of a kind". (Phew thank someone for that).Actually a lot of people don't take him too seriously because he is always trying and succeeds in making someone smile. If for no other reason he deserves the SMiley logo for that.A lot of people don't realize that Smiley only had one job and it was a short one before he got into Music. He has succeeded in playing music and only music for 50 plus years. Smiley has spent his life doing what many wish they could have...(figure that one out)His timing is impecable,The other day as I was about to hit a key shot off a par three in a golf match..My cell phone went off and you guessed it ,it was Smiley..After a few minute conversation I did hit the green with my tee shot, and then missed a birdie putt, then I missed the par putt. But Smiley made me Smile...he also made me cry as I paid out the 10 bucks I lost for the match. However as long as I don't lose a great friend he can call me anytime.Well there is one time I'd prefer he wouldn't, but I won't get into that.

Smiley was kind enough to play on my last session and his steel work was just so good and just right. We did several old songs like When My Dreamboat Comes Home, T for Texas, Yes Sir and some that I wrote. The guy did so much in the tracks he had, I can't wait to do another album for more...C6 on an E9...that's what he did.

Go to my website if you want to hear some of it....

Knowing I was a fan of Wynn Stewart from the Forum, Smiley, not knowing me from Adam, called me out of the blue one evening to talk about Wynn, Buck, and the good ole days. That conversation lasted about 45 minutes.I felt like I knew him my entire life. He has many, many friends and is constantly lifting up others. That says alot about him. I hope to get to meet him someday soon. God Bless Smiley.
