I just picked up the new CD The Wrights (Down This Road)The fantastic Paul Franklin plays steel and dobro on this album.This is possibly the best CD i have bought in the past ten years.There is alot of Paul's picking on every track.It's a breath of fresh air to hear a young couple like this go back to just singing some good old down home country music. Their harmony is second to none.I have just had a blast the last two days playing along. Even though i can't come close to Paul's licks, it still sounds pretty good.Right now they are touring with Alan Jackson.If you finally would like to buy an album that features alot of steel guitar by a great player like Paul, Don't miss this one !!!!!!!

| It IS a fine album, and they're great people too... I've been playing with them whenever I could for the past few years, mostly local gigs and industry showcases while they got their record deal together. I wasn't available to do the tour which I regret... Anyway, when I first heard the record I wasn't even sure it was Paul; it's very traditional sounding playing with a strong Lloyd Green vibe (IMHO). It's really fine playing and the record has some echoes of old Don Williams, The Kendalls etc. In an era when so many female singers feel like they have to "over-emote" on every song it's really refreshing to hear Shannon's low key and understated approach. I have been workin with the Wrights for a couple of months now and it is an absolute pleasure. Its country and that speaks volumes in my book, especially in the Nashville scene today. Adam and Shannon are great people and true hillbilly talents  . I am not really a big Paul Franklin fan, but he did play some things that I really liked on this record. We are on the road with Alan all year long, so come out and see us if we are around. |

I was given this CD by my sister in law, it did not appeal to her for some reason. I played the grooves off of it, loved Pauls playing and the material is a breath of fresh air.

I just downloaded this album. Great stuff. It's so refreshing to hear an album with just 5 players (especially when one of them is Paul, and another is Pig Robbins). It sounds like it was recorded old school (live with no overdubs). I agree with Pete's comment on the Lloyd Green vibe.

Oh yeah, according to all music guide, Hank Williams did the mastering on the record, which is a pretty good trick.

I was really looking for somewhere to buy-and-download this album legally, but at the same time trying to avoid using the word "download" as it's VERY often mis-interpreted !
So : Where do you guys "over there" buy(and-then-download) your music on-line ?

For me, download = buy. I get a nice check from CD Baby every month or so to remind me of this (CD Baby handles my digital downloads for iTunes and the rest).
It's easy and cheap, and the artist gets a very good percentage of the profits.

I just downloaded iTunes 4.8 (for Windows that is) and no matter HOW i try to search for this music I just can't find it ! Where/how did you find it ? (or is this just a sophisticated way of telling me I should have chosen a Mac ? )

Ole,
I just ran a search for "The Wrights" and the album came right up. If that doesn't work, try doing a power search for: "Down This Road".....
It is a very enjoyable album....
.....and yes, I do use a Mac.

On the song "Down This Road" Paul's playing is reminiscent of Hal Rugg.

Ole, you’re right - no Wrights on iTunes. (on Mac, either)
It was for sure in the iTunes Music Store some time ago.
