A new tune posted today on the JerryByrdFanClub.com site..........should greatly assist some of the newer players....particularly those who think that Don Helms has a fat, meatier TONE than those olde-timer early day steel players like the late JERRY BYRD.
Jerry's LEFT HAND technique with the bar makes his music so fantabulously "richer" than many others.......as exhibited in this
olde Hawaiian tune on the Home Page to Jerry's site. But, his right hand moving closer to and further away from the pickup is also a factor that can be heard if you listen closely. It's in the hands and not so much the equipment.

Ray,

I read that other thread...alot of people assume that Don Helm played on all of Hanks tunes. I think Jerry Byrd played on most up until 1952 (like Why dontchoo love me)? I'll bet that's what that "fat" sound is that the poster mentioned. Don Helm is also fantastic...I just wouldn't call his sound "fat". It is awful rich though, especially later on "walking after midnight".
