Albert sent me his new CD, "Silver Strings," and I must say I think it's a winner. It's mostly a program of gospel tunes, with the single exception of "America The Beautiful." I'd never heard any of these before, but Albert plays them extremely well, and is surrounded by some very fine musicians (including a killer guitar player) to support him. It's mostly E9, with a little C6 thrown in for variety.

Recently we've seen any number of 2nd and 3rd generation players who have come into their own and are producing some fine music. Albert is certainly one of them. Anybody who likes country and gospel steel guitar playing will definitely enjoy this one.

I, too, just recently acquired "Silver Strings" after being floored by Al's playing at the Indy Gospel Show. The CD is excellent....it is really amazing to hear how flawless he is in his technique and attack....and he manages to bring a great melody and soulfulness to each song.

A lot of the songs are very catchy

Yes. He is VERY good.

I have been playing this one since the show and will say that it is the best CD that Albert has done. It clearly is a first class project, well done, and very enjoyable.

I too have Al's CD and think he does a Great Job On It. He seems to get better every year I get to hear him at the Indy gospel Show. Eddie

Hey Mike, Albert's a fine player for sure. I remember his set at the Atlanta show in '98 where he did that thing using a hard boiled egg instead of a bar. He's a cool player. He was playing a S-12 Williams with only 3 on the floor and 5 knee levers but it was set up as a universal and had some of the normal U-12 changes on the knee levers. He was/is a pretty impressive player for sure....JH in Va.

Albert's version of "Power in the Blood," which he played at a recent Steel Jam I attended, really made me stand up and take notice! He's a VERY gifted player, IMO!

I was fortunate to meet Albert when I was visiting Bill Rudolph at the Williams Steel Guitar shop a few years ago. Very good player and nice guy.

If you want to hear Albert check out the sound clips posted at the Willams website. They are on the "sights and sounds page"
