Welp, my dobro came in yesterday, got it used from ol' Buster Warren. Gonna put some new strings on there and see about the Quarterman upgrade, as well as a nut and bridge.
Is Folk of the Wood a good enough place to pick this stuff up? I have a friend that's back and forth to Ruidoso, NM, so I can shave a little off with shipping there, plus I might could get a cash discount.
Any thoughts? Does most everybody use nickel wound strings? I'm thinking about trying bronze strings. Yes, I'm an idiot and haven't searched the forum yet. I'll probably go ahead and change out the cone, bridge and nut sooner or later though.

Most reso players use phros-bronze strings. Change the strings one or two at a time and bring the new ones up to pitch as you go to keep the cone seated or it will take a couple hours of playing to re-seat it. Tim McCasland there at the college can answer most of your questions, if you can catch him.  Billy |

Mark-
It's just a Regal 6 string, with the slotted headstock. There's no model number on it, but it's a lighter sunburst (cherry perhaps?) My best guess is it's a RD-45, since they don't currently make sunburst guitars in anything "smaller". It's got a metal spider, but I'll probably do the basic upgrade from FOTW, Quarterman cone, bridge, nut, etc. Can you identify from a photo or a serial number? It's #0006142

It's a good looking axe, got a little wear on it, but what the heck, right? That just adds tone.

Tim's my friend that is back and forth to Ruidoso all the time. He's my steel instructor, plus the teachers of one of my ensembles, so I see him at least once a day Mon-Thurs. Plus he's a helluva great picker, from bass to b@njo, and just about anything in between, including the Hurdy-Gurdy. I feed his fish while he's out of town, so he said he'd pick me up whatever I needed as long as I paid him back for it.
