Is that a plastic spider? I've heard those are less desirable than the cast aluminum. But I'm new at this.

Whoo, and they ship it "Tuned Up"
Mine didn't even come in tune and I got it used!

It's probably carbon fiber. A lot of people are experimenting with this for inserts as well as I guess now spiders.

I just spoke with Saga, the distributor for Regal. They told me that the spider is alloy aluminum, and the model RD- 40 has replaced the RD-45. He claims that due to the new soundwell and inverted cone, the 40 sounds much better, louder and warmer, than the previous models. The retail price is $500. same as the RD 45.
Noone on the forum tried one and compared it to the 45? |

I have an RD45MS and am very happy with it. I think it sounds great and the quality of construction is very good for under $500, $375 in fact from Janet Davis Music. So if the RD40 sounds better than the RD45 I don't see how you could go wrong with it.

I wasn't even aware that they made an upgrade. I'd guess that this model is too new to be able to compare against other guitars yet. You might check with McCabe's in Santa Monica - if anyone has one in the LA area, they would.
