I rush off the golf course to get set up for an 8 o’clock gig. As I pull up to the venue, the Suburban and trailer of the “leader” is not there. There is someone else, a bass player, that I do not recognize unloading. I asked what’s up? He shrugs his shoulders and goes inside. So I go inside and there is another band setting up. The bass player and the drummer that I expected also show up and they do not know clueless as well. We then check with the bar tender manager and he says, “I don’t know, they showed up first, and the person, books the stuff is out of town, I guess they will play” My choices are:
A. Wait for the “ band leader” to show up, call him an *******, and leave.
B. Ask the other band if they could use a steel guitar for a night.
C. Demand payment from the person "leader" who booked me.
D. Challenge the other band to a duel
E. None of the above, make a suggestion!

The above reminds me of the New Years eve job I had booked a couple of years ago. There was a tremendous unexpected snowstorm, but I loaded up and carefully and successfully made it to the job only to be informed by the manager that due to the weather, the New Year job was cancelled....so I trudged through the snow back home.
It was later that I learned that the cancelled job was not where I was supposed to be.....the job I had was at another club, and it was not cancelled!
Another example of why we should quit this crazy music business before we get old and start losing our faculties!

My 2 cents FWIW:
A. It's too premature for this option, till you know more about what really happened
B. Sure, why not? You'll already there with your gear. Playing would be more fun than reloading and driving home.
C. Absolutely.
D. This could be the most interesting option of all. |

| I did pick "B" and played that night. I was payed gas money, and a 2am breakfast. As an added bonus I was hired for the next night, and made some new friends on the way. |

| Jon there is always option "F" Load the honda up and hook up a bottle of nitrous oxide straight into the injector port and haul a$$ to the nearest Sundance Band gig !!! |
