Hey Guys

Who was playing w/ Leeann? It sounded so good I thought for sure the steel player was miming until the ending which was different from the record. Great touch/tone.

That was Mike Daly with Leeann. He is not with her all the time, he's still with Goerge Strait. And he was miming, it was a custom made TV track. You can thank Paul for the touch and tone. Very few people were really playing. I was playing acoustic with Rascal Flatts. We went into the studio a couple of weeks ago and cut a track for tonight's show. As did most of the folks you "heard" tonight. All the vocals were live though, and it was painfully obvious at times. Aww, good ol' country music. Winking

Travis please comment on the standing ovation for Leann, was it for her as a person or the fact that she is still trying to keep traditional country music alive?

For those who like great country buy her first two CD's, I about wore them out.

Don't discount LeeAnn too much though. When she appeared on the "live" show on CMT last week, she showed that her voice has it all. I dislike lipsync as much as anybody. I'm pretty sure the "live" show was in fact live, just 'cause of the the nature of the presentation. Nary a sharp or flat on some pretty fancy stuff she did.
Travis, do have any further enlightenment you could add on the CMT "Live" show? Thanks.

I was very impressed with LeeAnn's performance. It was the closest thing on the show (at least the parts that I watched) to the traditional country style that I love so much.

Yep, I'd play for her!

Am I to believe that IF I was a top notch steel player performing on live CMT Award Show, chances are it would be someone elses playing and I would just be imitating the music??? After all the studying and learning and spending the money on the instrument and practicing, you end up not even playing!!! I'm lucky I only play in clubs and bars where my playing is my playing--my mistakes are to my credit. Maybe it pays not to be so good. To quote Jeff Newman: "Less is better". What is this world coming to? Joe

Television is a very controlled medium.
I wish all acts went live to television, I miss all the old shows with bands and artists playing live. But this whole lip sync crap has been going on forever. When will the madness end!
Stepping down from my soap box. Sorry.
Dave

I just talked with Randle today and he told me that Brad and band were live, and also Alan Jackson was, Good to see some still really do it.

Unfortunately it's not usually the artist's choice, the producers like it that way. It's as much about sound and technical issues as it is about trying to have "perfect" performances. If the artist wants the band live AND has the clout to insist, then it's possible. Alan Jackson has consistently been one of the few to be completely live on awards shows, and George Strait a lot of times... Good for Brad Paisley for being a musician first and an entertainer second.

I'll never get over my disappointment at not being able to really play with Patty Loveless and George Jones when they did their duet on the CMAs. But it was still a thrill to be up there, and it DOES take the pressure off! Winking

Did you guys get a look at what Mike was playing on. I'm Positive I saw the old Crossover handle on what looked like a Marrs converted Sho-Bud.
What made me watch so close was the fact that it looked like a Sho-Bud/Baldwin Crossover from the front. It had no name on the front, but I've restored abunch of them darn things to know one when I see one.
How could anything that sounded so good be such a pain in the butt to play
I was great to here so much good steel guitar work amist all the rock guitars and dummers.
Larry Petree Just reminded me that this guitar had MCi fret boards on it, but it wasn't an MCI
