Anyone know what brand steel Russ used on that cut? Sounds different than the brighter steel tone on other cuts.
thx

Not sure of Steel, but he uses a Brad Sarno Black Box.
Hope this helps |

Russ plays either a Emmons Legrande or push pull SD-10. I talked to him last Friday and he also mentioned he's tuning down a half step now and using a wound G#. |

I think he's probably listened to John Hughey a time or two, don't you think! |

Who hasn't. (Listened to Hughey, that is) Russ mentioned that he was doing some playing without picks. Maybe that's the difference.

Russ likes that bright tone. He typically records steel thru a Fender Deluxe Reverb wtih a 10" JBL in it. That may also be part of what you're hearing. I think his main guitar is an Emmons Legrande loafer with only 2 pedals. I forget the pickup.
His Deluxe is interesting in that it has a baffle with 2 10" speakers in it instead of a single 12". He only connects one speaker at a time though. The JBL is for steel and the Tone Tubby Hempcone is for Telecaster.

I remember selling Russ a ZB D-10 once a few years back, probably in the 90's, and a pack seat. Wondered what ever became of him.
