On the home page of the Jerrybyrdfanclub.com site, you can now hear for yourself the fine bar technique (left hand) of none other than Jerry Byrd on his olde Rickenbacher Bakelite six string along with his Volu-Tone amp. (That's the same one that rests in its honored place in the Country Music Hall of Fame, Nashville.
Jerry's mastery of that bar....on a tune "Afraid" sung by Rex Allen...... is an exceptionally fine example of what a steel guitar (pedal steel or otherwise) is capable of sounding like. One can turn this listening experience into a very detailed FREE "instructional session"....provided you listen closely to every movement of that left hand. Forget the words of the song and listen to every movement during his backup as well as his solo in the middle. If this doesn't explain in expert fashion why the left hand is so important, nothing will.
We're not attempting to "sell you" Jerry Byrd's style.......but rather, the importance of the technique being applied here, by Jerry Byrd.
