I was just wondering if Conway used anybody to play steel on the road after John Hughey left the "Twitty Birds". When the band was Conway,John,Big Joe and Pork Chop, I always thought that was one of the best shows I've ever seen. "JUST AN OLE TWITTY BIRD FAN FROM MISSISSIPPI"! |

How do you follow an act like that?? John said that, after he left,Conway did an album w/ Robbie Turner playing on one cut,& then didn't use steel thereafter.

I saw Conway and the Twitty Birds at one of their worst gigs. (Outdoors, no shade, no water, basicly unimproved property that was for sale) and they carried on like the pros they were. I feel fortunate that I got to hear live John Hughey, Ralph Mooney, Sneaky Pete, Norm Hamlett and a bunch of others in their prime. |

I once heard Conway say in response to an interview question by Larry King:
I had the best of steel players with John Hughey, and I don't intend to ever use anyone else.

I actually stopped following Conway after John left. It just wasn't the same. Got my first copy of Pedal Steel.us today. Guess who's on the cover. "Buttermilk" >JH. |
