Hello-
I just wanted to introduce myself to the forum. After years of playing a Tele and trying to sound like a pedal steel I finally took the plunge. I have been playing pedal steel for exactly one week today (not counting lap steel and a bad run-in with an MSA Sidekick a few years back.)
The nice folks at Carter set me up with a S-12 Dekley 3-4 tuned to Extended E9. I’ve been laboring with the Winnie Winston book and that has been very helpful, but I’d sure love to find a teacher locally to help me with proper technique.
Best regards,
Joe Carlson
PS Gary Meyer- shoot me an email so I can pick your brain about the steel!

Hi Joseph, I work in Sacramento. I play a Carter U12. Pete Grant told me he is giving lessons. He played at the San Jose Jam last Saturday on a Dekley S-12, and played it good! Jim

Hi guys-
Thanks for the warm reception. I have been going through the archives and this place is truly a great resource.
I think I have found a band to let me make some noise with them as soon as I get up the nerve, so wish me luck!
Regards,
Joe

Joseph-I'll echo what Jim said. Pete Grant will give lessons. I was at the San Jose jam. Pete is a great guy and a great player, lives in Auburn.

Hi Joe, and welcome to the SGF. I might be able to save you some time in the learning process.

You can email me at pete@petegrant.com or come up to my gig with the Deadbeats at Cooper's in Nevada City this Thursday and Friday night. It won't be country but it'll be good.
