Topic: Any Sonny Garrish session work lately? |

It occurred to me that I haven't heard Mr. Garrish in awhile.
Do the pickers close to the business know if he's been doing session work recently and for whom? |

| I have not heard of anything on country radio but I know Sonny does a lot of Gospel Music recording. He just about has the recording market when it comes to putting steel guitar on Gospel projects. One of my favorite players. |

| Check out www.allmusic.com and do a search--you'll find many pages of his credits. His most visible country radio stuff lately is with Kenny Chesney... He does not post here, and is one of the nicest guys anywhere. |

I really like Sonny's playing; I wish he was more visible either here on the forum or at the steel shows.
His album that Tom Bradshaw put out (maybe in the late 70's or early 80's?)is one of my all time favorites.

Don't worry about Sonny, I know for a fact that he is working an average of three sessions a day. Possibly not what you are buying but the money he collects is the same. And he'll be there when most the others are gone. He's been recording as many sessions as he has had time for since 1974.
Great player and a even nicer person. The most unsung hero of steel I know of.

| Like Bobbe said, Sonny Garrish is a great Steel player and a Nice Guy. So he doesn't deserve any smart mouth comments from you. He's such a nice guy, maybe its comments like your's Chris, as to why he does not post. |

I have an Album (vinyl (if you can remember way back when Ha!)of Sonny Garrish when he was with Bill Anderson's Po Boys band. He did a wonderful arrangement of a song entitled "Guitar Bag" (sort of a takeoff from Steel Guitar Rag). Great Recording of a fine Steeler.

David,
Gregg and Sonny worked together last week. I don't know who the artist was.
Sonny records with Kenny Chesney, although Kenny's latest song doesn't have steel.
Anyway, if you listen to the radio you'll hear Sonny everyday! He is a great musician and great guy.

| I worked with Sonny tonight on a Gene Watson session, and he played great, as he always does. He still stays busy in the studio, but also finds time to spoil his 10-month-old grandson. His daughters and grandchildren have been a great source of happiness and strength for him over the past 14 months. |

| I think Sonny Garrish is one of the greatest steel players of all times. I've loved everything I've ever heard him do, and as far as recordings go, next to Paul he's probably one of the busiest guys in Nashville. I remember listening to some Texas swing type things Sonny did many years ago with Red Steagall, which I believe was back in the mid 70's, and to me, this man was way ahead of the times with regards to talent, technique, and innovation. He's also one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. |

Sonny is high on my "top ten" list. I also love the stuff he did with Stegall. I was stupid and lent these records to a student once, and the dude skipped town with them and I ahve not been able to find replacements. I like the stuff he did on Sara Evans' "No Place That Far" CD.

| Richard. You might want to try the Earnest Tubb Record Shop. I believe you can get the "Lone Star Beer" album on CD now. The first recording I had of this album was on a 8 track cassette. I found it while browsing in a little town called Moutain Home, Arkansas at a Wal Mart store, and I still have it as well as the CD. Sonny does some really great picking on that recording! Sonny is all over most of Joni Harms' albums and as I occasionally travel with her, it has been my duty to study and emulate his creative, classic sound for the past few years.
We are talking right out loud good old Country AND Western.
I learned A LOT from Sonny, and my hat is off to him, wherever he may be.
