I was watching Cmt this morning, which I never do, but anyway, I saw a guy playing a pedal steel in a video for a lady named Tift
Merrit (spelling?). He was actually on screen for more than a few seconds, and you could even hear the steel throughout the song. It made me happy to see the steel is still visible in the media.
Good job, whoever you were, and keep it up.

(Almost) Regardless who is in the Video does not indicate who played steel on the actual recording. Not to burst any bubbles, but; the music on almost all Videos is Tracks and sync’d! Videos take so much re-shooting of scenes that a live-band would be nearly impossible! [Sorry ’bout that, but; it just had to be made clear to the unfamiliar!]

Oh what ever, I don't sweat the details. the point is this guy WAS the actual steel player for the band, and he made it onto the video. steel in the song, steel on the video, I was remarking that I thought it was a good thing.

Wait a minute, do you mean to say that they would have brought in a studio player for the recording, and put the regular guy on steel? or maybe used the regular steel guy on the recording and hired a better looking guy for the video? I guess it doesn't matter either way, the steel still got onto the video.

To show how low a picker can go...I "played" on a whole TV series, filmed in Nashville for Canadian TV. I pantomined to every single song played on the show. The steel in front of me was never plugged in. Half of the "musicians" on stage with me did not know how to play any kind of instrument. I did get to see one of the shows...it looked pretty good. I believe that a large part of our daily lives is an illusion which is manufactured for someone's profit other than our own. Don't ya just hate reality???

The reality of it is Tift Merrit has a steel player on his cd and on the road!

Unfortunately, not all of our favorite artist do that.

Greg Readling plays very tasty pedal steel on Tift Merritts first album "Bramble Rose". This is actually one of my favourite pedal steel albums. "Tambourine" has less PSG, but is still a great album. I am not sure if he is the guy in the video though. Does anybody know where Greg Readling and Tift Merritt is located in the states.. Nashville?

She's from North Carolina. "Bramble Rose" was pretty good country stuff I thought. I'm pretty sure that the guy in the video is the steeler on the record.

I also like the new one "Tambourine", although it's got a lot more of a Dusty Springfield thing going on.
