Jody, I had a great gig at the Eagles club in Champaign Illinois. I play Steel/Guitar in this band and a great guitar player happened to be in the crowd and sat in for two sets, enabling me to sit down at the steel for a couple hours. I was borrowing a friend of mines 80's P/P Emmons that I am thinking of buying and I had a great time playing it, although the bass player said he liked the sound of my Sho-Bud Professional better. Happy New Year! [This message was edited by Bob Watson on 03 January 2005 at 02:06 AM.] |

I played at the Inn By The Lake in KY.and had a great time.Me and Sheila got an executive suit free prime rib bar and great breakfast.I`m not sure how many beers and margaritas we destroyed.Band was Steve Cochran good friend of mine and all of us oldtimers. All the guys in the band have a day jobs or privat business and there was planty of old on "the road stories".We played for free (even tho we got $50 as a appreciation and got booked for the next year for the real pay) but the point was getting together with a old buddies and have a good time.We had a blast, one of the best gig`s I had in a long time.No pressure no ego`s just music and fun.I of course played my Promat thru the 6-14 Webb and it sounded awesome. One of the best new year parties I ever had.At the end we all come to the conclusion that we would never go back on the road again but we will try to play some more gig`s like this one was.Like in the old days, playing because I love to and not because I have to.On the way up we saw a very bad accident, few cars looked like a bunch of deformed steel piles, bodies covered with blankets, terrible.I hope all of the guys on here made it safe to the gig and back.Wish you all very happy new year.

I had two gigs on New Years.First my band opened a new ice skating rink next to our performing arts center in the middle of downtown. We setup on snow, and ice.It was about 4 degrees out,the heater that they had hooked up for us quit working after about twenty minutes and I couldn't feel my fingers. We went into a little tent with a heater in it to thaw out. They finally got a better heater sytem, one of those jet plane looking heaters,And they put up a wall of plastic on my side of the stage. When we got done with our set I walked by one of those heaters with my twin reverb amp and it cooked the grill cloth right off of it.I'm glad it was just a guitar gig,my steel probably would have exploded. Then we drove for an hour and a half to Hatcher Pass and had a wonderfull gig.It took along time to wake up today.Happy New year to all of you guys, and gals. |

I had a blast doing my first real paid steel job last night. I have been playing only a few months but the guys who wanted me with them play very easy to follow, basic three chord country songs. None of these guys would make the the Opry stage but they get their share of local gigs.
Hey, it was a charge for this old dude to try something new at 64 and get away with it: and who says the gray matter on top stops the gray matter on the inside.
Look out Emmons, there's a new cowboy comin to town soon to push you out of the corral.

I did a 2 hour show 10 - 12 at The Walkabout on Hollywood Beach FL. Just me with my own backup trax singing and playing my '57 Stringmaster T8 and my '69 Strat. I do almost all original songs (except for Sleepwalk, Remington Ride, and Sweet Temptation) They play my CDs at the tiki bar all the time so the regulars know all the words . .
It went great, due in part to my new Startouch AB Pedal Switch which enabled me to switch back & forth between guitar and steel quickly and smoothly. It's so purty I hated to step on it, but a feller's gotta do what a feller's gotta do . . . Thanks Tony!
I guess it goes without saying that I made it home safely . . .

Yes, it went fine and we even got paid !
The late 20ish Blonde (fine young lady) that was absorbing the dance floor with her belly showing had a mishap near the end..her very loose top ,( I'm talkin' extremely loose here)...which was basically hanging by a thread..well..the thread broke !

Hi, everyone! My New Year's Eve gig in Elkhorn, Nebraska with Westwind went well. The people in the Omaha area are a great bunch of folks. [This message was edited by Curt Shoemaker on 02 January 2005 at 06:40 AM.] |

I had planned on having the night off.
(The first New Years Eve in many years)
Then a few days after Christmas my old band's lead guitarist slipped on the ice and broke his wrist...
You know the rest of the story.
I did have fun, though I missed playing Steel.

We kept the Gaming center in Idabel, Oklahoma in tunes as they gambled all night. We had a blast and got paid well. We usually play there 3 times a year---good gig. |

I had a great gig in the opening act for THE "Mavericks" in San Juan Capistrano CA. I was done by 10:30 PM. Paid very well, and got to kiss my gal at the stroke of midnight. This is the first time in years I've actually got to dance and have fun at a NYE gig. Usually I'm the head cheerleader/Dick Clark/Buddy Love. I was really blessed this year!
BTW, I now a have new found respect for the Mavericks! Even though they don't have a steel, they're without a doubt one of my top 5 country bands ever! |

I had a great gig at the Brownwood (TX) Country Club with Pauline Reese and her band. Pauline is a talented country singer/songwriter with a future, IMHO. She's traditional, but with a contemporary approach. Detamore, Volkaert, and Flores play on her recordings, so you know what she's up to musically.
Then I went on up to Fort Worth and played with the Sundance Band. Cool guys who have a honkytonk country party band. And in a first for me, I heard Prince's "Purple Rain" for the first time and then,... ahem... took a solo.

Our NYE gig went pretty good. The crowd was down a little mostly due to local pressure on DWI, but a good time was had by all. Lots of food, drinks, friends, and dancing. We had to quit playing right at midnight due to their local policies. So,I made it home through the fog by 3:30 and $500 richer. |

Played from 8-12 @ Austin County Fairgrounds Pavilion. My wife and two younger sons came with and we all were fed a nice ribeye dinner. We spent the night at a hotel and went home with a few hundred dollars to boot.
Will be back out this week at Shelby, Texas in Harmonie Hall.
