I've been watching this MidwestCountry on the RFD channel and they sometimes announce the steelers name, but I'm not able to make out what it is. Does anyone know who this is?
It's a good show with mostly local musicians.

If it was the show with David Frizell, it would be Joe Savage. He works the Sandstone show a lot with LeRoy Glazier on lead. I don't know the bassist or drumer.

They have a lot of good entertainment there.

That would be Joe Savage (spelling?)
I made a trip to the Minnesota steel jam to hear him.He does an excellant job.
I belive he used to play at Gatlins or something like that at " The Mall of America".

Joe and LeRoy are members of the house band at Midwest Country, and yes they are some of the best in their field. I go there quite regular, love the shows they put on.

The main steel man is Joe Savage. Once in a while you might see Cal Hand, another well known Minnesota steel player. If Joe has a gig, Cal will fill in for him. Joe is quite versatile in his playing, having seen him play the dobro, lap steel, and harmonica, as well as singing a mean version of Sixteen Tons.

Joe usually plays Mondays at Lee's Liquor Lounge in Minneapolis with a real good country band. If you are a fan of Dale Watson, he has a song on a couple of his CD's paying tribute to this bar, as Dale has played there many times.

The drummer on Midwest country will vary from show to show, and mostly it will be Roy Holdren, and the bass player you might see on some of the shows, is Joe Woods. Although lately, Joe has been absent due to a severe fight against cancer. I do not know who the current bass player is.

Glad you enjoy the shows from there. I have been there many times myself, and was fortunate enough to have performed there a few years ago.

Not to mention the job he did on the Vince Gill song "No Body Answered" , that a man sang. Mr Hughey would have been proud of him !!

I saw the show with Tommy Cash yesterday, the steel man sounded very good, they introduced him as Joe Savage. When Margo Smith sang there was another steeler that played with a six string in his lap. She did not feature him at all, but what little I heard from him was good. Of course she did not introduce him, she was THE STAR. Sorry, just I do not like it when the singer has the band sit quietly while she does a solo.

Joe did you once work with a band called Westwind from the Quad Cities? Also isn't that Mr. Franklin on 'When I Call Your Name"?

Craig...I've never played around the Quad Cities.
Bill...The shows are taped as they happen but not aired live. They are edited and pieced together. Some of the artists can't allow taping because of contractual stuff (Opry). Having not seen the show you are referring to, I can't say for sure. It may have been Aug. or Sept. when Tommy Cash was there last. He's been to Sandstone several times.
Thanks.
