I was listening to an old Louis Armstrong record and heard a distinct "Buddy Emmons" tag. If I had time, I'd mp it. I don't think Mr Armstrong left a lot of stuff unplayed. Maybe unrecorded..

Then there's Lionel Hampton..

You could do a lot worse than to copy Bix. He chose such beautiful notes! I liked his solo on "I'm Coming Virginia" so much that I wrote it out and put the tune in Band In A Box.

Curly Chalker also used to play trumpet, and approached steel guitar as a complete horn section.

Speaking of Mr Chalker, they played a piece by him on the Steel guitar radio station. It was with a big band and he really played great. What's the name of that record and is it available anywhere? Thanks!

What about Russ Hicks? Does he play trumpet licks on a steel,or vice versa?

WHAT??? You've never heard him play trumpet??
Get some old "Barefoot Jerry" albums,& listen for the horns. Dat be Russ!!
