Dear Brother and Hi Noble Hughey,
I saw that you were gracious enough to reply to the E-mails under this site.
I would like to say that when I was 15 years old I met you in Ayden, NC, when you played at Ayden-Grifton High School with Conway. After the show I went up to you and told you how much I enjoyed your playing. Instead of being rude, you were very nice, friendly, and answered my questions. You inspired me to start playing steel. Two years later I was playing steel with a gospel group. Now, I have been sitting behind a steel off and on for the past 30 years; mainly because you were nice enough to leave a great impression on a young boy. Thank you for that encouragement at my young age! Vann |

Vann: I had the same experience in almost the same area when I was working with the Daybreak Gang on Channel 5 in Raleigh. We shared a show with John and Conway but time has lost the name of the city to me. I do recall it was in that area but cannot say exactly where. I too shared John's genuine concern for up and coming steel guitarists. A lot has been said on this Forum about this character trait of the famous steel guitarists over the years. The BEST are truly the BEST persons in real life as well as on stage.
Regards, Paul |
