What Military Unit were you In??

I know many Steelers served in Military Service, I just wonder if any were in around the time and area that I was in. I was drafted in May 58 and was with the 77th Field Artillary at Fort Knox, Then went to Vicenza ,Italy in the 328 Ord. Battallion.I was in special services there with my 7string Ricky. I served in the US Army from June 1963 to June 1966. Basic at Ft. Leonard Wood, radio training in Ft. Gordon, and served 13 months in S. Korea, went to 5th Army Headquarters in Chicago, for 10 months, and then assigned to 595 Signal Corps at Ft. Devens, MA. They got shipped to Viet Nam, and I was discharged shortly after that. I heard they lost quite a few men in their first engagement in Nam.

I was a lot later than you heros. I served almost all of my time at the Pentagon in the Joint Chiefs of Staff. All four services were there, plus the Coast Guard.

Living in Arlington, VA and working in D.C. was like a permanent vacation.

Before Okinawa,in the 1950's, was stationed with Military Police units in Japan and Korea.

This was from May 65--May 68. Loved the military. Had a good time playing music with a bunch of men in Germany. Been trying to locate a buddy who played and sang. Lives in Wyoming-Dave Berger. Had a lap steel player. Saw many country acts.

I went in the Army in April of '58, had basic training in Fort Ord, California, went to Medical Corps training at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. Went to Germany from there for all of '59 & 60. Came back to Fort Bragg, NC to go Airborne. Got assigned to Support Group in the new division area but I wangled an assignment at the Post Service Club in the Old Division area. Stayed there for '61 and most of '62. I had it made on that assignment. Get up everyday around 9:00 AM or so and had a card to eat all my meals in the PX Cafeteria. Only had to go to the company on payday. I got to play a lot of music down there. We got to jump with the jump school at Ft. Bragg at that time to stay on status and had to make no field problems whatsoever...What a life. I terminated jump status as I only had 9 months to go before discharge and I thought I'd get to keep my good thing going on at the Service Club but to my surprise they sent me to Korea.... What a deal, Oh well, I had a good time there so it wasn't so bad. I initially was going to make the Army my career and stay in 20 or more years but I got a lot of chances to play music and decided to get out after 5 years and some change. Got to see both sides of the world and believe me "it ain't sideways"....JH

I went to Basic at Ft Ord, CA, then to Military Police school at Ft Gordon, GA.

Went from MP's to dog handler school in Okinawa, then off to Vietnam. I was assigned with a dog company in Cam Rahn Bay for a month, took a transfer to DaNang, then assigned to the 1/5 Mech Infantry as a dog handler in Quang Tri Province by DMZ for about 7 months.

Then assigned to Americal Div as a dog handler for a couple of months and back to DaNang to go home. Finished tour in Army at Yuma Proving Grounds, AZ, as an criminal investigator. Go figure my expertise at that time?

My reason for this post was possibly some forumites may have served at the same area and did not know each other. Also it may be a source to trace down old "Buddies " they served with. A couple I am trying to find is Emmitt Adams from Cleveland Tn, and Raymond Turner from Clovis New Mexico. Also a SGT IKE that looked enough like Jerry Fessenden to be his twin. ED
