Just wanted to let everyone know that since I have moved here to Austin about 3 months ago, I have really started having fun playing. I was tough for a while to get heard, but things are breaking lose now. I have played gigs with Justin Trevino, Dale Watson, Cornell Hurd, Dane Sterling, and a few other locals. And this was just in the past week. Wow, I never knew it could be so good.
I would really like to thank the Cotton Club in Granger for giving me the chance to get up and play and be heard. Thanks to Bill Dearmore for letting me get up and play. He still freaks out watching me play left handed. Don Sowersby, you did a pretty good job on mt lefty steel.
Thanks so much.
Roy
I am so glad that I moved to Austin.

No Kidding! The Cotton club Jam is an awsome time. I'm steel reeling from my time on the stage there last year. The great players and and dancers made me feel so welcome. Justin invited me and met me there early. Another big thanks Justin! Roy I wish I was there with ya. So much great music in the Austin area, So many nice folks. Texas is like a whole nother' country.

<< Wow, I never knew it could be so good.

I didn't either. It's not so good here in San Antonio. How did you do it? What's the magic combination to finding a group that wants a steel guitar, given they're such pariahs these days?

Dave, Like I said,, the Cotton Club really helped me , I believe, to get heard. Word of mouth is the best way,,, I think.
I also have to thank Redd Volkhaert. I got to know Redd by just hanging out at places he was playing here in Austin. He gave me a chance to sit in and play a gig with him, and he had never even heard me before. People have called him looking for a steel player and he has refered them to me. Thanks, Redd, I really appreciate that.
Another thing Dave, the gigs I have played here in Austin have all been pretty much traditional country music. The good stuff. I can't believe how much people like the old stuff. You just can't beat it.
