I have been unable to find who played on Don Williams recording of "Some Broken Hearts Never Mend."

Can anyone enlighten me?
Thanks,
Dave

That would be Lloyd Green on that song.

That's my all-time favorite Lloyd Green solo. It's an example of how a perfectly constructed instrumental melody can literally define a song. It's hard to even imagine that song without the steel part.

Thank you for that info Mark. Unfortunately, Don Williams did not have a great deal of steel solos in his recordings. Lloyd's playing was "as usual" fantastic! I am still amazed at how many songs Lloyd recorded and with so many different styles. B0B, this song has long been one of my favorite steel turns also.

Go Lloyd!

It was that song along with finding the Curly Chalker " Nashville Sundown " album in an old record shop that made me buy a steel guitar.

Don Williams' career after his participation with the Pozo Seco Singers started in 1974 with the #5 hit "We Should Be Together". The same year he had his first #1 "I Wouldn't Want To Love If You Didn't Love Me", followed by a string of major hits. Lloyd's playing is on all of these records, not only on Steel, some of them have beautiful Dobro accompaniment!

Kind Regards, Walter

Not to hijack the thread (but I will), another steeler that drops me to my knees was the picker on "sugar daddy" by the Bellame(?) Bros...who was that guy. Talk about making somebody want to run out and buy a steel...

That would be Danny Jones on the Bellamy's stuff. Wonderfully tasty playing. I loved his break on "Sugar Daddy" and his work "You Ain't Just Whistlin' Dixie".

Yeah, that's great playing...also sounds like the same player on "If I Said You Had a Beautiful Body". That's the player that really got me practicing. I have the cassets but there are no musicians listed. Somebody also said that it may have been Jim Vest? I'd like to hear more. Is Danny Jones still around and recording?

Does Don Williams perform anymore?
Like all of you, he was a favorite of mine, especially due to Lloyd's steel accompaniament.
It's hard to believe a talent that good (DW) can disappear from the stage...(or so it seems)

Tony, Don is scheduled to do a show near my home in a few weeks.
