Steel Guitar Hall of Fame member Johnny Farina received a standing ovation following his set at the 2004 ISGC.
Having been around when his recording of "Sleepwalk" became a hit, I went home from the ISGC and found my original 45rpm that I bought when I first learned to play Sleepwalk.
I then remembered that we had almost as many requests for the flip side. How many Forumites remember the name of the flip side and have played it?

I believe it was titled; "The Long Walk Home", but I have never attempted to learn it. |

Gene, on my 45 the flip side is "ALL NIGHT DINNER". I really like this one better then SleepWalk.
OK, so I got an extra "N" in it. IT is on the Canadian American Label and I keep it in a special place. Don't even take it out to play it anymore as it is just about played out. Got to be an all time favorite for me.[This message was edited by Roy McKinney on 17 September 2004 at 06:57 AM.] |

Here's a story that's special to me...
Two years ago, at the ISGC, I was playing a PSG at the Carter Booth, which is across from the registration desk.
I was playing an E9 version of Sleepwalk and a few passerbys were watching. At the end of the song, one spectator said, "it'll never be a hit", and his wife playfuly shoved him in the shoulder.
I then noticed the guy's name tag, "Johnny Farina"! It was a sureal experience for me.
Johnny said it was his first time at a Steel Show and he was overwhelmed by seeing how large it was. Then while he was registering, hearing someone playing his song made him feel welcome.
He was inducted to the HOF that year. |

I thought it had been established that Santo Farina played steel on Sleep-Walk! Maybe in all the confusion I missed something! Oh well¡ I still wish I could hear it again, regardless of which brother it was.

The Santo thing may be so, but Johnny Farina does the tune justice. I also enjoyed his version of Sumertime.

Never before and more likley never to happen
again where two friends born and raised in Brooklyn New York shared the same stage as HOF members. Amazing. I asked Jody how it felt having to follow Johnny, and Jody with his sense of humor replied," well I'd rather
follow an Italian from Brooklyn than have an
Italian from Brooklyn follow me, especially an Italian wearing one of those BIG fedora hats and making me an offer I cant refuse.
I guess Its an Italian thing and I'm Irish and I dont believe there is a Mafiosa,,do you
?? 
Bada Bing Bada Boom. Anyway Congrats to two
fine guys who came up the hard way,being from
Brooklyn isnt easy by a "long shot"  No
peddlers allowed in Brooklyn back then unless you were Italian and rode a Schwinn
bicycle.
Congrats to two fine guys.
Good Luck to you two characters for this once in a lifetime back to back Italian award
never to happen again, at least not in my lifetime.
