Never heard of her til now, but in the current edition of the fine rockabilly mag 'Blue Suede News' (#71, Summer '05) is an interesting article/interview with a very talented, blonde lady steeler/multi instrumentalist that I'm interested in knowing if anyone here has more info on, or had the fortune to witness performing in her heyday. She's still around but has no interest in being in the lime light today, so this article may be the only time we hear of her unless possibly a Forumite has more info. Some excellent pics with a cool feature shot of her on stage with 2(!) Bakelite steels nearby. She only released 4 sides so it's doubtful she was heard by very many in the day and fewer since, but it seems she should have been!

Blue Suede News is a very nice, long running magazine covering all kinds of American roots music. Gabby & Marc Bristol are good folks and the guest writers do a good job there too, especially with articles of more obscure artists from past and present ( like the one on Sparkle Moore ), plus they review many cd's and concerts by current bands. | I love to hear steel in Rockabilly bands. I am playing guitar and lap steel in a band that plays Rockabilly and old '50's C&W. It’s a fun band and the audience always gets into it. I played guitar on a session in Chicago last fall that featured a Rockabilly singer named Matt Lucas. Matt had a hit in the early sixties with a Rockabilly version of "I'm Movin'On". James Burton was also on the session. It was one of the coolest musical experiences I have ever had. There is an article about the session in the Winter 2004/'05 issue of Blue Suede News, #69. I was lucky enough to get my picture in it. Thanks for bringing the article about Sparkle Moore to our attention. | She sez that she was able to play all of Sol Hoopii's licks while learning, as a young teenager. Seems she learned to play any instrument she could grab during her wonder years, and now focuses on keyboards. |
