For all of you experts "on Hawaii"...... would like to know what places to be sure and see; and, which places to AVOID. What part of town to try and find a room in, and which ones to avoid. Where to find a reliable car and whom to avoid.

I've been offered the opportunity to play in a couple of shows, along with Manny K, one at sunset on the beach at Waikiki......a dream that might finally come true.

All contributions will be gratefully appreciated. Admittedly, I'm a greenhorn when it comes to world travel so need all the help I can get.

Do I, CAN I, take my Rick, as carry-on luggage? Do they usually have amps at these large stage shows, or do I need to figure on taking it also?

thanks to all, who might respond. Ray

Skip...I wonder about "the Beach at Waikiki" as it would have to be in a hotel to have a stage setup. There's nothing "on the beach" itself..Do you know the locale where you'll be playing ? As for an amp, perhaps one of our friendly Forumites who live in Honolulu might loan you a spare amp ? Take your steel, but best to take it in a good well padded gig bag and stow it inside the cabin with carry-on luggage. I wouldn't let it out of your sight !

Ray, a Rick Bakelite in a hard or soft case will easily fit in the overhead of an airplane. I've taken mine on both Northwest and Trans Meridian Air with no problems.

Thanks to both of you George and Gerald. The info' about the "overhead storage" is truly appreciated. I've been concerned about that.
And Keoki, I was told to bring a long extension cord; perhaps 300 ft. or longer. What does that mean? And where does one put the Rick while out to lunch? I hear some places are subject to personal property theft, even in Hawaii.

By the way, do you feel Honolulu will be big enough to have both Jeff Au Hoy and Ray Montee playing steel during the same week?
