Thanks to the generosity of you guys, my recent request for a CD of this old album has borne fruit (Forum donation on it's way).
I've been playing it in the car a lot and feeling nostalgic about my first tentative steps on PSG back in the '70s.
I must say that I'm struck by the fact that not everything on this record is perfectly in tune - maybe we've become accustomed to the superior mechanical attributes of the modern steel guitar, but it's quite noticeable to me.
I've really enjoyed hearing it again, though - I STILL like Buddy and Jay Dee the best, just as I did thirty years ago....
Thanks.

Mind telling us which tunes you feel the steel is not in tune on this album? Thanks.
It was on this album where I first heard Buddy lower his 6th string a whole tone. I could not wait to put that change on my guitar. When Buddy then split it with the B pedal on his first LeGrande, I again had to have that change. It is now one of my most used changes. Could not live without it. Having that minor (3rd inversion) without having to use pedals B and C is a blessing for me.

Please, let's not do that! Seeing the firestorm that was created when some players pointed out inadequacies in Jerry Garcia's playing makes me conclude that this type of discussion may be okay in conversation, but not on a public forum.
I've recorded some things I'm not altogether proud of, and I'm sure most all players feel the same.

Please, gentlemen - this is not due to inadequacies on the part of any of the players! And it isn't glaringly out of tune, just fractionally here and there. Listen to it again, Carl - can you say that all the intonation on that record is faultless?
I'm suggesting that perhaps engaging three or four 'pulls' simultaneously compromised the tuning (as it still does now with the 'F' lever) - let's allow that it's okay to point out occasional inconsistancies, even if we are discussing the best players in the game!
Donny - you're right, though. This would have been better discussed in conversation - nuance gets lost in this medium, however much of a blessing the Forum is.
No good can come of this - maybe this should be closed before I get pilloried on the SGF twice in one weekend!

Roger,
Could you tell us where you found a CD copy of "Suite Steel"? I'd like to buy a copy for myself. I have an old vinyl copy but lack the technology to transfer it to CD.
As a novice at jazz performance, I'm starting a project with a novice jazz guitarist. He wants to do "Wichita Lineman". A CD would make studing the music much easier than on an LP. The only instrumental version on CD the guitarist is familiar with is Johnny A's version. Not bad but not nearly as soulful as the Big E's version.
Thanks in advance for any help with my query.
Keep on pickin'!
