Les Paul came to my high school in 46' or 47', playing a steel guitar. He said he had been to Hollywood and did sound effects for a war movie. He demonstrated airplane sounds, straffing machine guns, and bombs going off. He also played Hawaiian music.
He was taking orders for a cheapo flat-top guitar with raised strings and a fretless cardboard fretboard that had printed fret lines and notes under each string at each fret. I think they sold for $24.95.
I wonder how much he contributed to the development of the steel guitar? |

I wish he would have done more. What would you pay for an original Les Paul Studio model lap steel guitar? Priceless!

I saw Les last Monday at the Iridium Jazz Club in NY. He's still "priceless!"

Gotta love Les Paul! Here's a quote from him about this bassist: "When I look at her, I feel like a condemned building with a new flagpole on it."
