Well, it is a beauty and certainly worth more than $1.00 as the bid shows! But yes, as far as I am concerned, it is a student model but a good one. HARMONY was never known to turn out high quality Hawaiian Steel Guitars along the style of GIBSON back some 50 years ago.  |

Ron,
I could be wrong of course, ...but I don't think either of those Steels you have inquired about are Harmonys. I think they are Gibson/Kay jobbers for Montgomery Ward's Royaltone line; Entry / no-frills models. I don't recall ever seeing a soapdish pickup on a Harmony, but have on a few Gibsons and plenty of Kays & Old Kraftsmans. The bridge / stop cover has also been on a number of Kays & Kay jobbers.
Maybe someone will chime in with some better / more-knowledgeable data.

That was my first lap steel!! Exactly the same color etc. I remember it clearly.
My mother and father bought it for me as a Christmas present in 1953 or 54? It came with an amp. I saw it in either Simpson Sears or Eatons Catalogue and brought it to their attention. It was a dream come true.
There was no name on it and no further info.
I have just been taken back fifth years with a click of the mouse.

| Denny...I am quite positive that is a HARMONY. It sure ain't no Gibson or Kay. The p/u is typical of Harmony and the case is a cheapo of that era. |

| I haven't heard Bobby's Roland Cube. However it is probably a similar model as to what I have and I'll tell you, it's a super amp which is light in weight and big in sound. Mine is called the ROLAND CUBE 30 and I love the beast ! |

Thanks Ron and George.
Now I gotta go do some back-tracking homework and reconcile some obvious misconceptions I've had about that pickup and mounting assembly.
Do either of you know if the "tulip" stencil on the headstock is for Royaltones?
I have one of those packed away somewhere in the chaos here (still  ) . I'm hoping that if the pickup is special wound for Steel, I'll like it as much as I do on old spanish models.
