I'm curious, did these two guys ever record
a project together? I'm listening to Vintage Chet, its actually sick how good Chet was in the late 50's and early 60's, Taste Touch and Tone, Kinda like Buddy,
Any Single Released with Both playing on the same track??? Buddy? Greg

I'm pretty sure that Buddy and Chet were together on Ricky Skaggs' 'Sweet Temptation' some years ago - it's well worth a listen, as you can imagine!

Jim

'Teensville' was my first ever guitar album purchase! (1959, by the way.) I managed to get it on CD quite recently, and love to listen to it again. 'One Mint Julep' is tremendous!

Regarding Chet Atkins' album "Teensville," it has a relentlessly swinging version of "Hot Toddy," with Boots Randolph soloing on tenor sax! One of my all-time favorite LP's.

Ahhhh, Yes,
The TWO MASTERS Together.
I don't know if they ever recorded together, But, I do have a great 11X14 of the two sitting together in what LOOKS LIKE, but I'm certainly NOT SURE, But looks like it was taken in MINNIE PEARLS' home. There is a Framed picture of her on the wall behind both Chet & Buddy. I believe this photo of Chet & Buddy was taken around 1996-98...But, still NOT too clear as to when and where it was taken. Maybe someone out there knows the REAL "SCOOP" on WHEN & WHERE this was "Shot."
MANY can PLAY the "LICk-4-LICKS" JUST AS what the Masters PLAY, And have Played in the past, COPYING All of their "COOL,"
IMPRESSIVE "LICKS," "RUNS," and so forth, But, what these two Masters have done in their Lifetime that puts THEM in "THAT" Catagory that we ALL "STRIVE TO ARRIVE," if you will, is simply due to THEIR OWN UNIQUE Style of their OWN Unbelievable "APPROCH," "TOUCH," "TECHNIQUE, and "TONE." And to ME, IMO, We All who Follow and study our "MENTORS" is what makes us, OUR OWN STYLE,(At least for me) and much better musicians, and by us Following that "YELLOW BRICK ROAD" that leads us on and on, We SEEK ENDLESSLY to "FIND" and "CAPTURE" that Musicial "TREASURE" that is "IMBEDDED" in our very SOULS, all the while "SEARCHING" for that "NEVER ENDING QUEST" of "PERFECTION."

Thanks, Jim - I'd like to see that!

I have a feeling that there's a mention of that prototype in Chet's wonderful book about all his guitars - I'll look tomorrow.

Don't forget to listen to that Ricky Skaggs track if you can - it has a great feel, and Chet does a nice thumb-style break. I'm going to check THAT out in the morning, to

There is no extended recorded work between the two masters, but there were sessions they cut together in the 50's, a Curtis Gordon session from -56 comes to mind. It produced the following songs: Play The Music Louder ( solo by Chet and a KILLER break by Buddy ), Too Young To Know and Hey Mister Sorrow.
I have a framed picture on my wall of the two gentlemen playing together in the 50's, Buddy on his Bigsby and Chet with one of his 6120's. Regarding the prototype Gretsch on the album cover, yes those PU's are prototype Filtertrons Ray Butts built for Chet. Chet still had the guitar when he passed away, as well as many other Gretsch prototypes. He can be seen playing it on some of the songs on the old Al Gannaway color films. It's also pictured in the book Chet Atkins, Me And My Guitars.

Note to Mr. Brown above: What album featured Duane Eddy with Buddy Emmons? I'll make a point of getting a copy, as I love Eddy's "album" songs of the late 50's on Jamie label.

"Twang A Country Song" was, I believe, the title - it's on CD now, along with "Twangin' the Golden Hits" - check with One Way Records (#OW-34543).

Jussi.

If you are talking about the Red Gretsch with the white painted on F holes with the proto Butts filtertrons, it is owned by a fellow who lives down the road a bit from me. His name is Jimmy Atkins and he is Chet's nephew. Chet gave him the instrument a few years before he passed on.

Hi Greg, I do not recall any specific Emmons & Atkins cuts however there were a few albums out By a french guitar picker named Marcel Dadi that featured both Emmons & Chaulker (sometimes on the same cut) extensively. Marcel Dadi had a very similar style to Atkins & his LPs are very worthwhile picking up. Best regards. ..jeff

A-ha Jeff, that actually reminded me about the Merle Travis Celebration album "Saturday Night Shuffle" on Shanachie-label. Chet, Buddy Emmons, Marcel Dadi are all on it, as well as many other familiar names such as Thom Bresh, Vassar Clements, Jerry Douglas, Mike Cass, etc. However, Chet and Buddy are not together on any of the tracks, both are guests on different tracks. Great album anyway!

Thanx everybody,I'll check some of this out,
they are without doubt two of a kind, Chet and Buddy, Both of them can take a song
and play the melody so beautifully, they
really have shaped so much of what goes on with the steel and guitar as we know it,
Jeff I'll check this Dadi out, Greg
