According to Wally Pfeifer, this years special guest will be Paul Kim, former steel guitarist of the Sons Of Hawaii.
Paul took over for a short time after the great David "Feet" Rogers had passed away. |

PAUL KIM, is an excellent steel guitarist with a great touch and a great Hawaiian falsetto voice.
It has been very difficult for HSGA to get Paul as a guest artist to come to Joliet because of Paul's scheduling problems. Now that it has happened you will not want to miss this great event coming to Joliet this year.
He knows the old Hawaiian songs, as well as the hapa haole songs. I guarantee when he starts to sing some of the old songs, YOU WILL GET CHICKEN SKIN. If you don't see me, and I will explain the problem, because I will be at the convention.
You will be hard pressed to come up with a song request that he does not know.
Additionally, Paul has been and is a regular performer at the Halekulani House Without A Key on the beach at Waikiki.
He has also performed with Auntie Genoa Keawe both as a steel guitarist and vocalist.
IN OTHER WORDS HE IS A TOP NOTCH PERFORMER.
CAN YOU HEAR ME OUT THERE?
Aloha,
Don

I need to correct you Don.
To get the HSGA discounted hotel rate you must call the Joliet Holiday Inn directly at this number: (815) 729-2000.
DO NOT call the 1-800 Holiday Inn general switchboard.
I agree with you Don... All conventioneers should stay at the Joliet Holiday Inn. That is where all the action takes place 20/7 (got to sleep sometime).

I just made my reservation a couple of days ago, and they told me they only had 2 rooms left for us, and I got the one with the king sized bed.

10-4 Bill.
If I had waited any longer, I would have had to sleep in Howard's room........in his bath tub.

Bill,
Typically I use the Chico Marx method of practicing which simply involves soaking your hands in warm water for 30 seconds before you get up on stage. Worked great for Chico, works great for me.
---------
Harry is pulling everyones leg. There are still rooms left at the HSGA rate.
Harry... the Holiday Inn will have an on-site Steakhouse (opening this month!).

Gerald,
It is probably better to call the hotel directly but I have used the 800 number several times in recent years and have gotten the discounted rate by saying that I was a part of the Hawaiian Steel Guitar Assn convention.
I did call the hotel directly this year.
If what you are saying is coming directly from the Holiday Inn then it would have been a recent change.
By the way the registration form includes both numbers.
Just trying to help.

Practice ... ???
I'm sure it'll be just like last year ...
I won't finish these guitars till the day before I leave ...
I'll print up the wrong chord charts ...
And I'll have to scurry around Joliet to find some Myers's ...
I can't wait ...

Wally Pfeifer just got off the phone with the Joliet Holiday Inn.
There are still many rooms left for the HSGA convention attendees at the reduced rate ($64.99 +13% tax for standard double room).
Make sure you call the Joliet Holiday Inn direct (815) 729-2000. When making a reservation say "Hawaiian Steel Guitar Association Convention" do not say "HSGA", it only confuses the people at the front desk.
----
Rick, don't worry. I know of a "full service" beverage store 1/2 block from the Holiday Inn.
