Hi, I hope you can help point me in the right direction. I am looking for anyone who might remember my father, Charles “Chuck” Hatfield. He and my mother, “Boots” Gilbert were part of Tex Ritter’s band as well as doing some recording with Little Jimmy Dickens , Hank Snow etc. and others. My father played steel and my mom played Upright Bass as well as Mandolin.

Thank You,
Trevon Hatfield

Yep... I remember Chuck Hatfield. To say that he is a fantastic steel player is an understatement.
I have a 45 rpm record of "Steel Wool" by Chuck. (Fortune Record #45-175B
Great...just Great.
Unfortunately I never met him in person.

I met your dad in Flint Michigan, when I was about 14 years old. He was playing around Flint and some in Detroit. I didn't get to know him. I was too young and he left there not too long after that and moved to California. I saw him in in a video, then a movie short, in later years, I think it was "The Riders Of The Purple Sage"? I remember him playing Steel Wool at a show in Flint, but that was many years ago. I have wondered myself what happened to your Dad and Dixie.
I would be interested in his story too, as he was one of my early HERO'S!!!!11

Remember him well, liked him well, he was to be admired, by all. A truly great player that was respected by the greatest. I walked into a club with Buddy Emmons in the early sixty's , he saw Chucks guitar (easily indentifiable)and knew immediately who's is was, and seemd excited to know it was him.
Good memories,

Around 1960 he played with Californian acts Carl Cody and then Billy Mize and Cliff Crofford at the Foothill Club in Long Beach.
This was when Billy Mize was trying to front the group and not play steel, Buddy Emmons had been the steel player for the group, but back in '58, so before Chuck I'd say.

I also had a 78 rpm copy of Steel Wool on Fortune records. Funny thing was, on the flip side of my record was Skeeter Davis and Billy Joe aka Davis Sisters recording of "I Forgot More Than You'll Ever Know About HIm."
