I just moved to the Sacramento area and I'm looking for someone that can give me some starter lessons on a PSG. Anyone got any leads for me? |

You might try Chris Ivey. He's a forum member who posts from time to time. I don't have a number for him....maybe he'll see this and check in. Great picker and super guy to boot....as a matter of fact, he's the one who turned me on to this forum, not to mention showing me some stuff when I first started out that not only opened my mind to the steel, but blew my mind just as much!

I'd second the recommendation for Pete Grant as a teacher. He's excellent as a player and teacher.

If you scare up Chris Ivey - and I suggest you do - be sure to tell him from me that he's overdue for a return trip to Nashville! |

Peter,
I have a number of dates performing at the Eldorado County Fair this year, which is in PLacerville, just 30 miles from Sacramento.
I play psg, keyboards and some 6-string with the Dave Russell Band. This weekend we'll be at the fair on Friday the 18th for 3 separate sets - one at 4:00, 6:30 & 10:30. On Sunday, the last day of the fair we'll play a couple of sets at 3 and 4:00. If you get an opportunity, please stop by and introduce yourself. You can check out the band's website at www.daverussell.com

Marc,
I live right outside Placerville. I'll try to stop by during one of your sets.
It's pretty rare to have a steeler in town! (Except when Chris Ivey stops by.....)
I look forward to it!

Not trying to hijack the thread, but.....
Hey Mark, thanks for the invite to the fair to see you guys play. Tammy and I had alot of fun.
Hey folks, Marks a madman-he's playing standard guitar, keyboard, and steel in this band...switching between the steel and keys on the same song!!! Displayed formidable chops on all three!
Great job Mark, it was nice meeting you and the rest of the band....
(what were you saying about the guitar slot opening up?.....)
As far as our buddy Chris, I'm waitin' on contact from him....I have one of his Nashville amps up here for ransom...hint, hint

Just wondering if Jack Vaughn or Shorty Webb are still around the Sacto area? If there still is a "Howdy" club on Franklin Blvd.

Thanks for the compliments Jay.
If I tell Dave what you said, he'll probably start calling me "Marc the Madman" from now on.
It was a pleasure to have met you and Tammy.
I wish we would have had more time to talk, but after the gig we had to tear down and pack up all the gear.
Steve, the guitar player, has been with Dave for a couple of years, but has already moved to near Los Angeles. He has agreed to play out the rest of the summer. As you can see, we all have a lot of fun in this band and Dave's a great guy to work for. It would be difficult for someone to maintain a "regular" job, and be able to play in this band. If you're interested, or know someone who might be, please let me know, and I'll get you in contact with Dave.
That night while they were transporting our equipment to our vehicles, my Peavey 112 fell out of the truck onto the grass. We tested and inspected it to make there was no damage. I understand that if there had been damage, their insurance would have paid for it. On Sunday we played on the main stage and that seemed to go quite well, but I'm not able to put out as much energy or quite as much of a show in the heat of the afternoon as I do during a cool evening gig.
I look forward to talking with you again sometime.
