Jack smith, with Connie Smith, played some of the best pedal steel I have heard in a long time! Class....no doubt about it!
Tone was perfect, to my ears. I wonder what brand he was playing?

I was playing slide guitar with Terri Clark last night. She got inducted into the Opry, and we have not stopped partying.

I didn't get to play any steel last night, unfortunately.

Congrat's to Terri also!

Billy Dean is back better than ever. What a voice!
I was happy to hear Tommy backing him.
Hoot & Kenny sounded awesome too! Love that version of "Thank God I'm A Country Boy"!

Mel & Pam a class act, way to go Mr. Sargent!

Looks like I missed a good show. Oh well, thanks to GAC's propensity for reruns I'm sure I'll catch it in a few weeks.

Reggie,

Thanks, I'll tell her.

You're right about Jennee'. She is quite the harmony singer/fiddle player/tambourine beater/dancer. If we could just get her driving the bus. She wanna do it all.

I hope the Jeanee you're mentioning is the Jeanee Keener I saw do the Tulsa show in 1997! What a great talent, and I recall hearing she has had some college @ Vanderbuilt (?) by now......what a great future she has. Glad she's doing music! & on the Opry now! Never mind having her drive the bus, she's a musician!, not a bus driver,
unless it was in a pinch maybe!

Thanks Theresa!

Doing the Opry is always a little unsettling for me. Even after doing it hundreds of times when I was with Ricky Skaggs, I still get a little anxious. I thinks it's because it's such a hurry up and wait thing. You have to be there for camera blocking at about 3:00 or 4:00 and then sit around for 3 or 4 more hours, do a couple of songs and then wait 3 or 4 hours to do your evening spot. Plus, you never have enough time to tune on stage after they intro the artist so you have to tune backstage and then when you go out under the lights and a whole other climate, I find a certain "sharpness" to tuning! Maybe next time I won't even bother with that whole tuning "nonsense"(:

I saw Connie Smith at the Riverfront Stage in Nashville this past weekend and it looked like Jack Smith was playing a rosewood formica push/pull. The whole band sounded great, as did Connie of course.

Hi Reggie,

Thanks for the kind words. That guitar is a mid 70's rosewood push/pull. I took the stock pickups off the E9th and replaced it with Bill Lawrence Humbucking. Certainly the best sounding guitar I've owned. I had a Zum before this and traded it for this guitar. I've missed it so much that I'm getting another Zum next month when I play in Kansas City with Connie.

Again thanks. I took about 3 to 4 years off and when I say it was under the bed I really mean it. I didn't set the guitar up until Russ Hicks made me get it out to do the "Steel Pickin' On Connie Smith" project. As we all know it's not like riding a bike. After about 3 months it's beginning to feel good again.

Doug: Thanks so much! (Sorry I missed the GSGA!)

Kevin: I'll see YOU at the bus.
**If you have the blues, then check out Kevin's new CD...it's great!**

Doug: I'm the same Jeneé although my last name has changed to Fleenor now...(it rhymes w/ Keener though!) And it was Belmont University (not Vandy) that I went to. I got offered this gig with Terri after my first year at Belmont, so I decided to go on the road with Terri. I'm glad I did.

David: Hey you!!! How in the world are ya'!? And I'm sure I have those Pee Wee Herman High Heel Shoes in the back of my closet somewhere. haha.
