Just got back from Gatlinburg and saw the "Country Tonite" show. It was very good.

They introduced all the band but missed the name of their steeler; he also plays the banjo.

from the back of the theater, it believe i saw that he was playing an emmons??

anyone know who he is?

I bet that's Junior Mercer - a terrific player!

It could also be Darryl Thatcher. I think he's still playing in that area.

Thanks for the replies. neither of these rings a bell but with my 4 and 2 yr old making as much noise as the show.....well, you get the picture!!

he wasn't "walked on" in any way and when it was "his time to shine", boy did he ever.

if it helps, he looked liked he could be in his 50s, graying hair, glasses.

I'm in my '50s with graying hair and glasses, but "hit shore weren't me".

Junior Mercer had the gig a few years back, but I don't think he plays the banjo. Maybe he decided to learn a few tunes on one for show. Junior is an incredible steel player. If it isn't Junior, I would be curious to know what he is doing these days.
