Sat nite I was standing about 5 feet from you while taking pictures and watching you play the 'Preacher' during intermission at the PHC show. I notice that your volume pedal appeared to be open all the way, but yet, the volume from your amp was not too loud and perfect for your break. Was I correct in what I saw and how did you maintain the correct volume with your pedal all the way open? I couldn't see the volume settings on your amp from where I was standing (age and no glasses).
Thanks Buddy.

Joe,
The amp volume was set below what I would use at a steel show, which is around nine o’clock. Another consideration is the output volume of my Genesis, which I’m sorry to say I don’t know how it was set. When I got to the rehearsal, I pushed the volume pedal wide open, set the amp volume at an acceptable stage level for the band, and let the sound crew do the rest.

I’m getting used to playing C6 tuning with the volume pedal at a fixed level and letting my right hand supply the dynamics. That’s the method I used when I first learned to play, so it’s not much of a problem returning to it. Also, the dynamics feel a bit more natural and easier to control. I wish I had all the notes back that my volume pedal has squelched when I got uptight during a solo.

It was good to see you at the Ryman Saturday night. Shows of that nature are sometimes bogged down with so much paper work that I have to shut everything out and run on auto pilot (Groovus Interruptus). So when I look out and see a familiar smiling face in the crowd it always has a lifting effect. My best…

And that leaves the right foot free for all those P5 and P7 chords you do too.
Makes sense to me!
