Fantastic!
Last time BE was on PHC, I was listening on my car radio. When they announced Buddy, every body started clapping....and then I drove around a !@#$% hill.
When I finally got radio reception again everybody was clapping wildly as Garrison was giving kudos to the fabulous Buddy Emmons as he left the stage!
This time I'm gonna park in an open field. |

I enjoyed it big time. Also dug that you were in the house band for the night, not just a featured artist (although I wouldn't have minded more 'feature' time.) Also dug that Mr. Keillor seriously mangled the timing of the show (I've been listening for years and I know that his "News From Lake Wobegon" monologue always, without fail, goes on at around 25 minutes past the hour.) He was WAY late, as he commented, but he made sure to give over the time for you to play "The Waltz..." And for you to give your little talk about Bud Isaacs and PSG history. I was watching the online still-image video and was going nuts during the mid-show local studio break as I saw you guys playing and couldn't listen. Also, around 5 minutes before air time the cameras were showing you & J Gimble either picking or working out arrangements, or so it appeared, and I sure wished I could hear what you guys were up to.
Nice show![This message was edited by Jon Light on 02 May 2004 at 08:01 AM.] |

I'm really sorry I missed this Mr. Emmons. I planned to listen and wrote down the time. But because I am not a regular listener of the show I got caught up in other things. Is this show archived or repeated throughout the week?

I wish I could have heard it but, I was pickin' at Robert's yesterday. But much to my surprise, I looked up and there Buddy was just loafing before showtime I guess. It was great to talk with you Buddy if only for a few minutes.
Is there anywhere you can listen to an archive of the show?

I must respectfully disagree with Buddy Emmons' post about his appearance on Prairie Home and it being nothin' IT WAS REALLY SOMETHIN'FELLAS!! Tremendous playing and stunning tone. Perhaps it was the fact that it was live and spontaneous. It blew me away. |

I was lucky enough to attend the PHC show Sat nite. Seeing and hearing Buddy at the
Ryman was fantastic. The acoustics of the old hall enhanced Budyy's tone to the point
it was unbelievable. Playing in a controlled
and disciplined environment like that, I got to see another side of Buddy's playing I had
never seen in person. During intermission, I
was able to say 'hi' and take a picture of
Buddy (still in camera). I didn't think he
could play any better than what i've seen
many times in the past, but, as usual, he
surpassed himself and my expectations. It was
worth every mile down and back to see the show and to see Buddy once again. Buddy, I just don't have the words to express how great the perfomance was. Thanks for recognizing me and sharing a few words.

Joe, you lucky guy! I heard it on the radio. I believe it might be dangerous for me to drive and listen to Buddy.... Perhaps I don't pay enough attention to the road.

Randy,
I never know when someone is kidding when they say something like that, but I can totally relate to music distracting your driving. The only two tickets I got for speeding, which happened around ten years ago and were a couple of months apart, was when I was listening to a Pat Martino album. After paying the second fine it dawned on me that it might be better for my driving record and pocket book if I just listened to Pat at the house, so I took the tape out of the car.

Buddy,
No joking at all. I was listening to your album which includes, 'Take Me Out to the Ballgame' the other day while driving to work. Walked in the door whistling the tune - didn't realize I was whistling actually. A lady started laughing and singing the song. Said it made her day....
BTW, my favorite playing by Pat Martino is on the 'All Sides Now' cd. The playing on 'Both Sides Now' speaks to me somehow. I like everything I have heard by Martino, I just seem to like the playing on that one song best.
I also got a kick out of Gimble giving a plug for the Western Swing show in Austin while Garrison was trying to move to another topic. That really cracked me up.

Listening while driving--I was on the way home from work, listening in the car, and called Mike Bagwell(a recent guest on PHC, BTW)and he was listening on his stereo at home--there was about a 350 millisecond delay between his radio and mine---just enough to REALLY fatten it up
Great job, Buddy! |
