I just bought a Dekley S-10 with a serial number that reads SK103-2
Does anyone know what year it was made ?
It has a great sound and is very easy to play.
Any other Dekley players out there ? Looking for other comments regarding history
etc on Dekley Steels.
Thanks, John

Hi John, I was plant manager and helped design the Dekleys. The number you gave is the part number of the end casting, not the serial number. The serial number is located on the underside of the guitar, on the tuning peg end casting. It should be something like 010-XXXX or 110-XXXX.

Since we stopped using cast endplates at the end of 1979, I'd say your guitar was built between 1976 and 1979.

Hope this helps!

There is a copy (pdf file) of a Dekley Owner's manual available at the URL

Click on Owners Manuals and download the file. It has lots of goodies plus some serial no. info.

Great guitars, mine is anyway. I've been playing an S-10 for about 5 years. It has been through the mill, and is worn and beat up, but still plays great. Good action, and stays in tune. (A little heavy, but that's OK).

These guitars are made so well they will out last all of us! It's too bad that they quit making them. I think the modular way they are put together, (mine is, anyway), could have developed into a production guitar that could have been very competitive in price. It's just about universal in the way you can set it up, also.

Great sound for an all aluminum body, too.

Les

Your right les, a little heavy but solid as a rock.
I really like the action and it's sound and sustain are great.
