Here is most fun I am capable of having in this life:
Friday night my band, Case 150, opened for Last Train Home at Iota in Alexandria VA., and I got to share the stage, play a tune and trade licks with Dave Van Allen. LTH is twangbangingly excellent and Dave's a really strong player - he's got a lot more of that fundamentally classic steel style going on than I do.
This for me was the musical high point of 2004 so far - great playing, cool club and a packed house of people actually interested in original roots/twang music. Thanks to DVA and LTH - let's do it again soon. |

cross posted from another thread on this topic:
I was just reviewing some old threads in the Tablature section and found this quote:

DVA, I've just gotta meet you some time. We only live about two hours apart and I hope you won't take this the wrong way, but we sound like twin sons of different mothers. Mark Tomeo posted 05 October 2001 |
Well last evening we finally got to meet- in arlington Virginia of all places. Mark's fine band Case 150 opened for my band Last Train Home... after their set, Mark left his (the infamous Purple) ZumSteel setup, next to my ZumSteel, and a few songs into our set we called him up to play dueling steels with me on a tune called White Train. Originally recorded by a band called the db's, Last Train Home had recorded it for a db's tribute compilation forthcoming,,, but Mark had played on the ORIGINAL!! It was too good an opportunity to pass up!
On LTH's version there is an extended outro steel solo, so Mark and I traded 8's on it for a good long while... call and response, "try to top that, pal", big fun...
somebody took some pix so I expect they will show up here eventually... (and here it is!)
It was really fun Mark. Sorry I didn't get to the gig early enough to hang out and shoot the breeze more...

And another thing...DVA keeps his bar in a plastic mini M&Ms tube. Just like I do. And I mean that in a good way. |

my son is allergic to peanuts (the scary anaphylactic reaction kind) so I can't compare...
I just like the chocolate-y aroma wafting up from the strings....
and the serindipity of things intended for other use being perfect for unintended applications... like a 9v battery fits perfectly in a plastic dope... oops, I mean 35mm FILM can thereby won't short out in the ole pack-a-seat... |
