I had the pleasure of listening to Joe play with some of his hometown buddies at the Cinema in Culver City and he sure sounded great on his blue Zumsteel. He has a very nice stroke and touch also precise bar movement and very smooth pedal transitional moves..At the time it was Joe, Ld singer and Ld guitar player (rest of band was broke down on the Grapevine) A veritable treat to see a fine steel player from the Bay area..

I was there too. There were about 5 ot 6 steel players in the audience, come to worship at the feet of the master.

Joe was awesome, but everybody who has heard any of his recordings already knows that.

Mike and Billy, thanks for piling it on thick! BTW, that was an interesting set because as Mike mentioned, the bass and drums broke down on the Grapevine coming down to L.A. from S.F. and didn't make the gig. What they didn't mention was that the guitar player sitting in with Dave Gleason & I, was the great B-Bender player, Bob Warford (played with Linda Ronstadt, Warren Zevon, etc. & currently involved in a project with Sneaky Pete). He also sat in with the full band the next day at our Amoeba Hollywood in-store, that we did to promote the new CD (Dave Gleason's Wasted Days) "Midnight California". The tunes are real good country rock circa early '70's, and I'm all over the album. So if you like that kind of thing you might want to pick it up. But, getting back to Bob Warford, it was a treat to play with one of the innovators (along with Clarence White) of the pull string guitar, and he's a great guy. We'll be doing it again this Saturday at 2:00 PM at the S.F. Amoeba (but no Bob Warford). Also thanks to Mike Perlowin for lending me his amp that night, and for getting the word out.

Gee Joe, how is it that you are able to get those gigs at Amoeba Records? I hear the owners are real sticklers!!!

Hi Mike Johnstone (AKA Mike Rhinestone - who knew?),
I forgot to mention that I enjoyed seeing you and your excellent band play. I think they're called Cody Bryant (that's an L.A. joke, folks), and they reminded me of house bands i used to see in the 70's that could amaze you by playing every style of music well. Mike is an excellent Universal player who is on a par with David Phillips, although they play differently. You tend to forget that Mike is playing a universal tuning until he whips out a hot run, and I'm thinking, I can't do that.

Also hi to Billy Wilson, and yeah, it doesn't hurt to be connected with Amoeba. Don't quit your day job!
