My friend and steel guitar mentor the late Julian E. Tharpe would have been 67 today, on March 28th, 2004.

He was born March 1937 in a little cabin on a small country backroad near Skipperville, Alabama. A couple of summers aHis brother took me to the spot of their old homeplace. Julian rests today in a little country cemetary.

If you haven't read the archive threads/postings on him. You need to do so. There are several that have lots of comments by those of us who knew him.

There was and will be no other steel player like Julian. He was so unique and original in his approach to the instrument we all love so.

This November will be ten years since he left us, but his music and legacy linger on in the hearts of us who knew and loved him.

He defintely, without question should be an inductee into the Steel Guitar Hall of Fame.

As Scotty said many times at the Steel Guitar Convention, "The Man Could Pick!" The Man was Julian THarpe!

Happy Birthday Friend!

Happy Birthday JETharpe. Thanks for the many lessons you taught me, not only about steel guitar, but about life in general. It's a crying shame, and a disgrace that your name, along with that of Reece Anderson, can't be placed in a niche of high honor and shared by
all steel guitar players, all because of the hypocrisy of so few.

Time will eventually reveal the truth, you can bet on it.

ALL the players I've corresponded with like Julian and want him in the SGHOF.

Like the Sara Lee commercial: "Nobody doesn't like Julian Tharpe!"
