Hello. I'm interested in learning to play 6 string lap steel but have been having a bit of trouble getting started. Particularly with respect to finding any instruction in my area. I live in Southern CT. I'm interested in playing jazz standards and blues type stuff. I was wondering if any one might know of someone within a one to three hour radius (CT, NY or MA) who I might contact for some guidance and lessons. I'd appreciate any leads you could give me. Thanks.

Hey Chuck--Bob Hoffnar, here in Brooklyn, may be your guy. Here is an ad he's got running right now: http://newyork.craigslist.org/brk/muc/87482965.html

Doug Baumier in Northampton, Mass, plays and teaches pedal steel and plays nonpedal, too. Give him a call about the latter.
