The original "student model" electric steel guitar ... the Model 59.
Prewar ... 1.5" magnets ... non-adjustable (pickup height).
Hollow bodied ... stamped sheet steel ...
Originals came with a "hard wired" cord ...
Personally, I love them ... but most find them vastly inferior to frypans and bakelites ...
They seem to fetch anywhere from $300 to $500 these days ...
This one looks like it's in pretty good shape ... 'cept that one set of "3-on-a-strip" tuners is upside down.

It's a Model 59. They were introduced in 1937; the shaded paint job was introduced in 1939; they ceased production in 1943. The body is stamped sheet metal and is hollow; it's not unusual to find them stuffed with old Los Angeles newspapers -- so you can actually narrow down when it was made. If there is a drawback, it's that the pickup is not height-adjustable.
There's a nice example in Rick Aiello's "Steel Museum."

| So, what you're saying is, if the PU is weak, you are stuck with that not being able to raise it. That seems like it could be an important factor in buying it. |

Ron, that seller is a newbie with 0 feedback. If you're going to do bidness with him you might want to speak with him on the phone first. You could ask him to call you - and if he doesn't, something may be fishy . .
I avoid 0 feedbackers like the plague. I think they should at least buy some picks and strings and rack up a few feedbacks before attempting to sell an expensive item.

They are usually set very well ... but if tweaking is needed ...
