There are so many recordings Dicky's been on, I don't really know where to start..
I guess some of the most recent ones are Jake Hooker's last several CD's including "You Had A Call" which is a beautiful song Dicky wrote. He's also on Jake's last two live CD's as well, "Set One" and "Set Two" recorded in Rockwall, TX. "Set Two" is the latest release. You can get these at: www.southlandrecords.com
Dicky is on just about everything Justin Trevino has done as well, including "The Scene Of The Crying" another excellent title-track song written by Dicky. Try getting this one at either www.justintrevino.com, www.CD-Tex.com or at www.southlandrecords.com. I believe all three sites have Justin's CD's. Dicky's all over them and his playing will move you.
He's also on the new Leona Williams CD "Honorary Texan". Leona does one heck of a singing job on job that CD too! You can also find many cuts with Dicky on a bunch of Darrell McCall's albums, all of them great.
I am honored to have Dicky on my CD as well "Just For The Record".
One thing for sure, Dicky will make any album special and that's why he is used on so many sessions around here. You can also type "Dicky Overbey" into your computer's search engine and you'll see many other listings come up.
I hope this helps you out and I know you will enjoy all of these recordings with Ol' Dicky on them!

| I believe it was Dicky who wrote, and played on, Darrell's "A Stranger Was Here". It's one o' them anthropomorphic songs, ala "Hello Walls". If you can find it, it's worth the effort. |

Good one, Richard, but let's stress that it's the OLD 1976 'Ronnie Milsap - Live' album that features Dicky. Milsap's done another so-called live CD more recently that's not so 'organic' as the old one - I'm not even sure if there's steel on this new one.
What about Dicky's 'outro' lick on 'Country Cooking'? Wonderful!

| There's a 5cd box on Bear Records with older (mainly'70) recordings of Darrell Mcall called "The real Mccall". On 1,5 cd it's Dicky Overby on steel. I've heard the things mentioned before, but these recordings are my favorite. (other players on the box are Lloyd Green and Buddy Emmons, i favor Overby, but this is personal of course). He's also in the movie Road to Nashville, playing two songs with Faron Young, and i think also on some recordings with him from this period (i'm not sure about that). |

| Thanks to all who have responded or will. This has given me great info on getting as much info as I can on Dickys' recordings. I hope he recovers soon and releases some more instrumental albums. Any other videos? |

| If you want to see and hear one of the greatest "in person" steel players it is the incomparable Dicky Overby! Johnny Cox had always told me that he thought Dicky was the best 'in person' E9th players for clubs. I had the opportunity to hear Dicky and Bobby Flores here at the Ft. Worth Stockyards about 6 months ago and I was in awe of his playing (and the talented Bobby Flores). He had that old Emmons p/p just smoking with great licks and tone to die for...I'd encourage everyone one to buy Dicky's and Bobby Flores new CD's!! Fanatastic music...fantastic people. |
