Outstanding work backing up Joe Nichols tonight on Austin City Limits. His Derby really did cut through the mix well. Joe sang "Farewell Party" and Terry got to play a full verse ride. Good show.

I watched it and liked Joe Nichols and Terry Crisp 's smooth steel playing. Derby sounded good.
Austin City limits sometimes has a lot more steel in it than the Grand Old Opry used to have. I cant get the GOP anymore since it left Tnn, Spike, CMT...sad...al

WELL! Last night I was watching the golf on TGC and switched channels during the commercials (standard practice in this house) - there was Joe Nichols and his excellent band! I missed a lot, I suppose, but luckily saw most of 'Farewll Party' - Terry's playing was exquisite, especially just after his solo behind the vocal....
Speaking of which:
Does anyone else agree with me that Joe is an unusually good singer? He has a wonderful technique, and clearly loves the traditional style - I pray he doesn't get 'watered down', or somehow spoiled by his record company! I think he's the very best out there right now, and I await his next CD with great interest.
Great to see my old pal, Brad Albin, on bass, too. Rod Riley is a fine guitar-player who I first heard some years ago with Don Kelley in 'Roberts'. The piano-player was remarkable as well.
Joe Nichols is such a musically-accomplished singer that I'd like to think that he had a personal hand in selecting such great musicians.

the bass player I used to work with on the road few years back was in the band that hired Joe Nichols some time back in Oklahoma,and they fired him ,they tought he couldn`t sing and that he wasn`t going nowhere.Times change.

| Mike you are way too under appreciated. You are among Nashville's finest. I sat in your living room and was totally blown away, on both your MCI and your 59' Bigsby. Man, this cat can blow! And he does pretty fair work on push-pulls as well. Keep your chops up Mike, your day will come again! |

| I was on a show a couple of months ago in LA with Joe Nichols. Got meet Terry. A real nice guy and fabulous player. Joe opened with A-11. Nuff said....... |

| Sorry I missed that show, maybe catch repeat. Joe is a great singer and very nice young man. I had the pleasure of playing some college dates with Joe back in '98. I told him then all he needed was the right song to make him a big star. When his first single The Impossible came out I knew it was just the beginning of a long career. I wish him the best. |

When I first heard "Brokenheartsville" (or whatever it's called) I though, "hmmm, George Strait's back in the country groove. Cool." It's a good song with a real story, and country as can be. If Joe Nichols holds it together, and I'm betting he wll, he'll be one of The Good Guys. A'la Strait, Travis, Jackson, Chesnutt, Byrd, et al.
I'm not surprised a monster like Terry Crisp has this gig. He's to be envied.

Ricky Scaggs when Terry was with them.
I got to see him play (up close) from
the side of the stage. Man, he was smokin'

Check out Terry's blistering version of 'Raisin' The Dickens' on Skaggs' 'Love's Gonna Get You' album - this is also worth getting for Skagg's duet with James Taylor on 'New Star Shining'.

| I caught that show by accident and was really impressed with Joe and Chris. I was amazed at how full the steel sounded. I also learned that one get clear harmonics on the steel in places other than 12 frets up. Oddly, one of my guitar students bears the name Terry Crisp. |

| I met Terry Crisp two years ago in Anderson, SC while singing karaoke. I was on the stage when the guy who ran the karaoke machine told me there was a steel guitar player in the room. I walked over to him after I sang, then introduced myself. Terry had played steel for Reba McEntire for awhile and he's playing steel for Joe Nichols now. I got to see Joe Nichols play in Little Rock for KSSN's concert this year. That's the big radio station in Little Rock. Terry played his tail off. Not to go without saying.... Buddy Jewel was another artist that was here as well. I have to tip my hat to his steel player. I didn't catch his name, but he played very well. Slow songs as well as the fast licks on his song "I Can Get By". I know that Paul Franklin played on the CD, but Buddy's steel player did very well duplicating his licks. However Terry Crisp is a monster player bar none.
