It was my pleasure to meet him,
very cordial & nice;
giving freely of his time,
he don't think twice.
I ain't blowin smoke,
he's the real deal;
been playin' forever with his "buddy",
his steel.
Until recently a man I never did know,
except..I needed help, he was happy to
show.
I thought...a professional steeler always
just out of reach,
never dreaming that one day him I would meet.
A workin' man when not traveling lonely town,
his circle of friends is large and
abounds.
No finer man you'll meet, that's a fact,
one of country's top pickers, now what do you say to that?
well, no more tears as this poem now ends,
it's a bad day for the blues, my friend.
so as you linger awhile, his name will
reveal, that he's as big as a texas
echo and he plays the steel.
Who is this steeler and who does he play for?[This message was edited by Terry Srader on 07 December 2003 at 01:22 PM.] |

ok, maybe it was the cheezy poem....it actually gives 11 hints as to who the artist is.....
here's the 12th hint.....
this artist was in the "class of '94" with a hit honky-tonk song that went to #2 on the charts. he wrote all but one song on this particular album.
remember, who is the artist and who is his steeler (been w/ him for 8 years)?

I'd guess Norm Hamlet with Merle Haggard.
Well, I take that back. As I was typing my guess you were posting and after reading the new info, I must recend.

david cobb is correct. do you know steve or met him?
Steve was not David Ball's original steeler but has, in fact, been with him for the last 8 years.
the 11 hints in that cheezy poem lists 11 of david ball's songs.
the 12th hint, albeit vague, refers to David Ball's "Thinkin' Problem" which went to #2.
ricky....you were close on this...alan jackson was in the class of '89 (so he started the decade of the 90's)...along with Clint Black, Garth Brooks and Travis Tritt to name a few.
steve "alonzo" walker ... I want to publicly thank him for all the help he's been to me. Very gracious and giving of his time as we spent a few hours at my house getting my Shobud "in shape."
Yes, his "Circle of Friends" is large and I'm glad I can call him my friend. A wealth of information, loves to play steel....it's his passion. It shows!![This message was edited by Terry Srader on 08 December 2003 at 03:44 AM.] [This message was edited by Terry Srader on 08 December 2003 at 03:51 AM.] [This message was edited by Terry Srader on 08 December 2003 at 03:53 AM.] |
